Harry Goodwins Hints at Green Arrow Role in James Gunn’s DCU

As we eagerly anticipate the highly-anticipated comeback of Superman later this year, marking the start of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooted DC Universe, the franchise is still being developed. Fans are on tenterhooks for updates about new characters and their respective actors, particularly Batman, and now, an actor from the popular Netflix series The Gentlemen has expressed interest in portraying one of the most adored street-level superheroes: Green Arrow.

On social media, actor Harry Goodwins, known for his role in The Gentlemen, is currently advocating to portray Oliver Queen (also known as Green Arrow) within the DC Universe. His post hints that he might have already discussed this role with Gunn. In a recent post, he declared, “2025 I have big plans… It’s happening,” accompanied by an image of the hero holding his familiar bow and arrow from DC Comics.

A snapshot of Goodwins’ Instagram story post, initially posted by Goodwins himself, has been re-shared by DCComicsFanBoy alongside an image of the actor who bears an uncanny resemblance to the character in real life. With limited acting credits under his belt, Goodwins is an up-and-coming talent that directors James Gunn and Safran would be remiss not to consider for the role. “@milkias_samuel” on Twitter exclaimed, “Wow! He looks just like Oliver, I’m not kidding!” while “@dannywwhi” added, “He definitely has the physical resemblance. Although his acting experience seems limited from what I can see, he was in The Gentleman on Netflix. Standing 6’1 and a former model, he certainly has the look for Oliver.

Green Arrow Could Be the Perfect Introduction to Street-Level Crime in the DCU

Originating from the minds of Mort Weisinger and George Papp, Oliver Queen is a prosperous entrepreneur who heads Queen Industries. After a disastrous shipwreck, he reappears in Star City, assuming the role of the vigilante Green Arrow on the city streets. Known for advocating progressive ideals, this character could be an excellent fit to guide the DCU’s lower-key, street-level escapades – much like Daredevil does within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Previously, the character has undergone live-action adaptations on multiple occasions, with Stephen Amell portraying him notably in The CW show called “Arrow.” Interestingly, plans were once made for a standalone movie back in 2008, where the character would have been falsely accused of murder and imprisoned at Super Max, alongside various DC supervillains. Regrettably, this project did not come to fruition (although it did influence an “Arrow” storyline), leaving behind what could have been a significant milestone in comic book movie history.

As we continue to follow news about the upcoming changes in the DC Universe, the debut film of the revamped franchise, titled “Superman,” is set to premiere in cinemas on July 11, 2025. In this new movie, David Corenswet (“Twisters,” “Hollywood”) takes on the roles of both Superman and Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) portrays Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult (the “X-Men” series, “Nosferatu”) steps into the shoes of Lex Luthor. The film also stars Edi Gathegi (“For All Mankind”), Anthony Carrigan (“Barry,” “Gotham”), Nathan Fillion (“The Rookie,” “The Suicide Squad”), Isabela Merced (“Alien: Romulus”), Skyler Gisondo (“Licorice Pizza,” “Booksmart”), Sara Sampaio (“At Midnight”), María Gabriela de Faría (“The Moodys”), Wendell Pierce (“Selma,” “The Wire”), Alan Tudyk (“Creature Commandos”), Pruitt Taylor Vince (“Bird Box”), and Neva Howell (“Greedy People”).

In characteristic fashion, James Gunn introduces a fresh take on the classic superhero within the revamped DC universe, combining grand action sequences, witty humor, and emotional depth. This new Superman is guided by empathy and a profound trust in human kindness.
