MultiVersus Director Urges Fans Not to Threaten Devs Over Game Closing

As a devoted fan, I’ve got to say, among the numerous Smash clones out there, MultiVersus really stood out as one that garnered positive reviews. So, when word came that Warner Bros. was shutting it down by May, it left fans like me in complete shock!

Game director Tony Huynh has a message for those overly invested players who seem to be taking the game shutdown too emotionally:

1. “Tony Huynh wants to address the highly passionate players who are struggling with the game’s closure.” (Formal)
2. “Here’s what Tony Huynh has to say to the over-the-top fans who can’t seem to handle the game shutting down.” (Informal)
3. “Game director Tony Huynh wants to speak with the diehard players who are having a hard time dealing with the game being turned off.” (Intermediate)
4. “Tony Huynh has a word for the overly devoted gamers who can’t seem to accept the game shutdown.” (Casual)

MultiVersus Director on Toxic Behavior

After the official announcement of the final season, Hyunh shared a heartfelt post on X (previously known as Twitter), expressing his gratitude towards the fans. However, he also made it clear that he won’t tolerate any threats of harm directed towards the game’s developers.

The director penned, “I understand that everyone’s hurting, including each member at Player First Games, but I must address this issue: when threats are made, it goes beyond boundaries. You have the right to express your feelings, but threatening harm is unacceptable. I hope you can pause for a moment and recognize how hard this is on our team. We’re all deeply grieving over the fate of the game. None of us wanted this outcome, and it wasn’t due to lack of concern or dedication.

Upon revealing the final season of the game, a flurry of fan complaints flooded the post. Given today’s digital environment, it was hardly unexpected that certain players would escalate their dissatisfaction to the point of issuing death threats towards the developers. Regrettably, this has become an unfortunate norm for popular properties that cause even minor inconveniences to fans.

The Final Season

As an ardent fan, I must admit that the allure of MultiVersus lay in its seemingly endless pool of beloved IPs. However, it’s disheartening to learn that the game might shut down before my favorite character gets a spotlight. Hyunh clarified that the selection process is multifaceted, taking into account factors such as development time, community feedback, collaboration with IP holders, potential cross-marketing opportunities, and, most importantly, the team’s inspiration to create the character. So, it’s not just about picking characters; a lot more goes into it.

Currently, the next two characters set to join the game are Aquaman and Lola Bunny – it seems appropriate for the final season given that the game initially featured Justice League members and Bugs Bunny.

Offline Mode Available

Rest assured, you’ll still have the chance to enjoy MultiVersus even without an internet connection. However, do make sure to update the game to its most recent version and log in prior to May 30 when the new season begins.

Even though playing offline offers access solely to items earned during the game, many gamers are hopeful that developers might make downloadable content items accessible (or at least winnable) prior to ending support for the game.

Hopefully, WB Games finds another way to milk their vast library of characters in the future.

I’m thrilled to share that I can now dive into the exciting world of “MultiVersus” on my Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, or PlayStation 4|5! But here’s a bittersweet news: The game’s live service is wrapping up in May. Still, I can’t wait to make the most of it before then!
