Of course, it was inevitable that we’d discuss this eventually. We’re referring to the imminent premiere of “Fourth Wing” TV series, after all. Why not delve into it? It seems to have consumed my every thought recently, and given our shared affection for the books, let’s dive in together.
In reality, the Fourth Wing series is currently one of the most loved fantasy franchises – and with the release of Onyx Storm, there hasn’t been too much information about the upcoming series beyond a few earlier announcements. This book-to-screen adaptation is generating a lot of excitement, but so far, details have been scarce.
Although progress may seem slow, we continue moving forward. To help me endure the anticipation for the upcoming novel (given its delayed release compared to the last three), I plan to discuss pivotal scenes from Rebecca Yarros’ novels that should undeniably feature in the forthcoming TV series adaptation.
To begin, many of these instances are quite impactful within the novels, making them likely contenders for discussion. However, to keep things concise and avoid an overly lengthy list, we’ll focus on the major events instead.
By the way, beware! This text contains spoilers for Onyx Storm. If you haven’t read up to the Fourth Wing books, I suggest stopping here.
Fourth Wing Moments
Where it all began…
The Parapet
It’s quite surprising if we don’t encounter the Parapet scene from the initial book of the “Fourth Wing” series, isn’t it?
This significant moment offers a profound insight into Violet’s character, being one of the initial instances where we truly understand her, as she navigates a precarious stone pathway stretching across a vast chasm during a tempestuous storm, en route to Basgiath.
She’s going on about so much history, naturally, as it helps her relax – absolutely no info-dump intended here…
Anyway, that has to be in there, and I stand by it.
The Gauntlet
In one of my most cherished books, “Fourth Wing,” I fondly recall a chapter centered around The Gauntlet. This is a trial of strength that newcomers in the Riders’ district must face to demonstrate their readiness to ride dragons. Naturally, Violet tackles it in her unique style.
It’s remarkable, indeed, how the petite, seemingly frail girl managed to endure the Gauntlet when numerous others – even one of her teammates – perished. Yet, it’s Violet’s cleverness and resourcefulness in overcoming obstacles that makes her an engaging character, a trait I eagerly anticipate being showcased in the series.
Threshing, Obviously
In essence, the event known as Threshing – where riders connect with their chosen dragons before taking flight together – will inevitably occur. However, it’s crucial that everything is executed properly.
I want this instance to transform into a sensational TV event – why not, I aspire for it to create a seismic shift in the world of television, as it was so extraordinary that it left me utterly astonished the first time around.
A recruit forming a connection with not one, but two dragons. And who might Violet be, you ask? Well, she’s not exactly Daenerys Targaryen, but she certainly holds her own charm. Quite the amusing thought to ponder, isn’t it?
The Meeting Of The Marked Ones
In the captivating tale of “Fourth Wing”, one particularly intriguing scene I’d be eager to witness is when Violet catches sight of the Marked Ones gathered together in secret – essentially, the offspring of rebels who possess relics. Typically, these marked ones have not been kind towards Violet.
However, this instance marks the initiation of their genuine dialogue, establishing something significant between Xaden and Violet (that sets the stage for further interactions). Simultaneously, it offers a glimpse into the Marked Ones at the school, revealing them to be less villainous and more like a close-knit family.
War Games
In “Fourth Wing,” War Games stand out as some of the most impactful scenes for me, encapsulating essentially everything that has unfolded in the novel. It’s a moment where Xaden and Violet’s relationship development, her bond with the dragons, the strife between her and Jack Barlowe, including the hurt he inflicted, all converge into a single climax.
Of course, there’s a lot of pain towards the end, but we don’t need to talk about Liam, please.
Iron Flame Moments

Did anyone else say more signets and battles?
The Archives Heist
To put it straight, reading “Iron Flame” at certain instances felt like a vivid dream, even more so a year after, but the Archives Heist scene was something I desperately wanted to witness on-screen. Watching each character utilize their signets synchronously for a shared objective is an experience I’ve always found compelling.
Liam Coming Back
Certainly, we’re likely to have mixed feelings about the actor chosen for Varrish in the adaptation, but at least his torment of Violet provides an opportunity to see Liam once more within the story—even if it’s only a figment of her imagination. Regardless, it was heartening to imagine him on screen again, as we have all been eagerly anticipating his return.
Andarna’s Ability Revealed
Previously in the sequence, it seemed as though Andarna was merely a passive presence, safeguarded by Tairn and appearing to lack significant power since she was still maturing. However, when we witness her ability to alter her scales in “Iron Flame”, it becomes evident that there’s more to her than meets the eye.
In the upcoming scenes of the book, there’s a brief yet crucial event that significantly impacts the remainder of the series. We’ll delve deeper into it soon. Furthermore, let’s hope she maintains her witty and spirited personality, much like how she is portrayed in the novels.
SPOILERS FOR ONYX STORM BELOW. DO NOT READ PAST IF YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED IT.

Brave the dark…
Finding The Irids
I’ll be upfront: The initial part of “Onyx Storm” seemed more suitable for an email, given how jam-packed it was with events. However, once Violet’s team discovers the Irids, the type of dragon that Andarna belongs to, things take a turn for the worse.
It seems the situation has grown more intense, as they discredit Andarna based on her identity and her application of powers in conflict instead of harmony, leaving me with the impression that things aren’t going their way. This is a scene I desperately want to be portrayed skillfully on television.
The Venin Battle Near Tyrrendor
To put it simply, I found this final battle more captivating than many from the last two books. The reason being, it seemed as if the world was coming to an end. There were casualties, tempests, and a sense of urgency in the air. Characters were struggling desperately against the Venin, who threatened the very existence of Earth. In short, it was a whirlwind of events.
If fought correctly, there’s a chance that this fight could produce scenes as dramatic and unexpected as those found in the captivating world of “Game of Thrones”. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for such an outcome.
Xaden’s Sacrifice
Absolutely, I’d rather not delve deeply into the topic as it might make me quite agitated, but please ensure that whatever needs doing is carried out accurately and correctly.
It was clear that Xaden would become Venin by the book’s end; things wouldn’t be neatly resolved that swiftly. In a desperate attempt, he draws additional power from the Earth to save his dragon and Violet who were distant, leaving behind almost all of his essence in the act.
Absolutely, at the final stage, he clings to the last fragment of his heart that continues to cherish Violet – there’s still a chance, folks (yes, I’m in theory mode). However, when we reach this part of the series, it must be handled with utmost care – and stir emotions intensely everywhere, just as it did for me.
It’s uncertain if the show titled “Fourth Wing” will rank among Amazon’s top shows, but I’m optimistic that we’ll hear more about it soon. Fingers crossed that the series won’t encounter a situation similar to “Game of Thrones,” where the books are not completed before the show concludes – if it indeed gets produced.
