It’s no secret that the enduring Sherlock Holmes series lives on in fresh formats, 140 years after it first started with “A Study in Scarlet”. The upcoming spinoff series on The CW is titled “Sherlock & Daughter“. In this adaptation, the esteemed English actor David Thewlis steps into the iconic detective’s shoes, while budding talent Blu Hunt (from “The New Mutants”) brings his daughter to life. MovieWeb had a chat with Hunt when she was promoting her new film on Shudder, “The Dead Thing“. In addition to discussing her latest project, Hunt also shared some insights about her upcoming role in the new CW show.
Hunt shared that Sherlock Holmes having a daughter isn’t a new concept, as people often imagine him as almost asexual. However, working with David Thewlis, who is incredibly talented and cool, was beyond his dreams, and he learned so much from him about acting. It was an unforgettable experience for Hunt.
I believe it will be quite enjoyable! There’s something adorable about it… It’s undeniably empowering for women, but our bond is incredibly tender. The connection between them seems genuinely sweet, and I made an effort to bring authenticity to my character. I think we both had a wonderful time working together.
Blu Hunt on Her “Obsessive Phase” with Dating Apps
Fans of Marvel may recall that Hunt starred in the standalone superhero film, “The New Mutants” (2020). Despite its initial intent to launch a franchise, the movie failed to resonate with audiences and didn’t achieve the success it aimed for. Regarding the characters’ cinematic future, Hunt commented, “I believe it was truly a fortunate turn of events.” He added, “I felt quite relieved.
Now, “The Dead Thing” is slated as Hunt’s next leading role, premiering on Shudder perfectly for Valentine’s Day. In this series, Hunt’s character Alex tirelessly scrolls through dating apps in search of the perfect match, a quest that unfortunately results in tragic outcomes. Hunt shared insights with us about the authentic real-life experiences she drew upon to breathe life into her captivating new role.
At one time, I used dating apps, but that’s no longer the case. Interestingly enough, my current partner and I first connected on a dating app back in 2020. However, I disappeared without a trace, and we were meant to go for a walk together. I completely vanished from his digital life. Then, surprisingly, we crossed paths again three years later, in real life, and now we’re deeply in love.
Hunt admitted, “I did go through an intense phase of obsession, especially around the year 2020 when things were particularly gloomy. As a single person living alone and quarantining, I often found myself engrossed in my phone, using two different dating apps… The similarity between me and my character Alex is that I rarely met up with anyone I matched with.” Don’t forget to check out The Dead Thing, which starts streaming on Shudder from February 14.
