Saw XI In Doubt: Could Tobin Bell’s Age Derail Horror Franchise?

It seems that the Saw series might have encountered its final snag, given the hold-up in the release of the next installment, titled Saw XI. A recent article by Scream Magazine suggests that a reliable insider claims the eleventh Saw film has run into various challenges, such as internal studio disputes with Lionsgate and complications with the return of the main actor.

The original release date for “Saw XI” was set for September 27, 2024, but it was soon moved to September 26, 2025. It was later confirmed that Tobin Bell would reprise his role as the notorious serial killer John Kramer, also known as Jigsaw. However, a reliable source informed Scream Magazine that it’s highly doubtful “Saw XI” will meet its new September 2025 release date due to issues behind the scenes. Unless there are significant changes, it seems “Saw XI” won’t be released in the fall of next year.

It’s believed that the problems faced by Lionsgate are primarily because of their recent financial struggles. Movies like Megalopolis, The Crow, and Borderlands, which were significant projects, didn’t perform well at the box office last year. Although it hasn’t been confirmed yet, these financial troubles could potentially lead to further delays for Saw XI.

Concerns Have Been Raised That Tobin Bell Is No Longer Able To Lead the ‘Saw’ Franchise

What’s more troubling are the circumstances involving Tobin Bell, the actor who initially played John Kramer in the Saw series. This character, a terminally-diagnosed engineer turned punisher, first appeared on screen all the way back in 2004. Now that Bell is 81 years old, there’s speculation about whether he can still lead the franchise with his usual magnetic intensity, as suggested by recent reports.

Additionally, there are whispers about the impact of Tobin Bell’s advanced age on the series. At 81 years old, Bell, who has portrayed John Kramer in eight out of ten Saw movies, may be struggling with the physical demands of a Saw production, as he encountered significant challenges during the last film.

Currently, the planned release date for Saw XI remains September 2025, with Kevin Greutert set to direct and Marcus Dunstan writing the script. But if these rumors are accurate, there’s a strong possibility that Saw XI could be delayed past 2025.

In our latest encounter, Saw was depicted in the 2023 film, Saw X. This horror sequel reintroduces John Kramer, delving into an uncharted tale of Jigsaw’s most intimate game. The narrative of Saw X unfolds between the incidents of the original Saw and Saw II, chronicling a desperate and ill John who ventures to Mexico in search of an unorthodox, risky medical procedure that might cure his cancer. However, he discovers that the operation is nothing more than a scam meant to swindle the most defenseless individuals. With renewed resolve, John resumes his work, flipping the script on the deceivers by orchestrating a series of intricate and chilling traps in his trademark brutal style, exacting revenge on those who defrauded him.

In my humble opinion, watching Saw X was an exhilarating experience that left me utterly impressed! This film managed to captivate both viewers and critics, earning it a remarkable “certified fresh” rating of 81% on Rotten Tomatoes – making it the most critically acclaimed chapter in the series so far.

The return of Tobin Bell as John Kramer was nothing short of spectacular, garnering universal praise for his performance. With a worldwide gross of $125 million, this prequel/sequel truly hit all the right notes. If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend giving Saw X a watch!
