Theophilio FW25 Tailors Black Style

Edvin Thompson, a Jamaican fashion designer based on the 17th floor of New York’s artistic WSA Building and showcasing his Fall/Winter 2025 collection titled “The Morning After,” found the coincidence amusing. His tailoring-focused line was conceived before the Met Gala theme (“Superfine: Tailoring Black Style“) was revealed, leading him to remark, “It seems someone’s been keeping tabs on me!

In the cozy nook of a fashion showroom corner, nestled on my iPad, were photographs of my father’s most dapper outfits and striking hats – each one carefully crafted with a touch of whimsy. These served as inspiration for the contemporary Theophilio man on my mood board. I was determined to emphasize tailoring in this collection’s menswear, giving more attention to the Theophilio man, who I believe has been somewhat overlooked in previous seasons.

Consequently, his menswear exuded a vibrant character: newsboy hats sat loosely atop wool trucker jackets and leather pants, while ribbed knit polos clung to the torso over flared wool trousers. Lime green corsetted button-ups and pants offered a striking contrast next to a pinstripe single-breasted blazer and white dress trousers. Each ensemble was remarkably bold, and when seen together on the same male model in the catalog, their ability to metamorphose couldn’t be ignored. Thompson simply described the collection as “transformative,” and indeed it was.

It seems quite plausible that Theophilio’s newest designs will grace the Met Gala red carpet on the first Monday in May. Thompson was amazed to note that these creations were conceptualized even before the theme was announced. He expressed great excitement about fashion’s upcoming grand event, exclaiming, “It’s unbelievable!” The identity of his lucky model remains a mystery, but one thing is for sure – they will perfectly embody the theme.
