After more than 15 years stuck in pre-production limbo, the remake of “Masters of the Universe” has started filming at last. Principal photography commenced a month ago, with Nicholas Galitzine stepping into the role of Prince Adam/He-Man. Fresh news about casting for Amazon MGM Studios’ unique take on “Masters of the Universe” has surfaced, and it’s exciting to know that everyone involved will contribute to the 2026 release. However, I can’t help but feel a sense of intrigue regarding how one specific character from the He-Man universe will be portrayed in this new version.
Who’s Been Added To The Masters Of The Universe Cast?
The first update regarding cast members has been announced by Deadline. They revealed that Morena Baccarin will portray The Sorceress from Castle Grayskull and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson will play Fisto in this production. The Sorceress is responsible for safeguarding the power within Castle Grayskull, which enables Prince Adam to transform into He-Man. However, she can’t employ her special abilities beyond the castle’s boundaries, and when outside, she assumes the form of a telepathic falcon named Zoar. Fisto, on the other hand, is a powerful character with a metallic prosthetic hand who initially serves Skeletor but eventually joins forces with He-Man as an ally.
Later on, it was shared that James Purefoy and Charlotte Riley will portray King Randor and Queen Marlena, Prince Adam’s parents in the series. They remain oblivious to their son’s dual identity as He-Man, with King Randor being entirely unaware and Queen Marlena often sensing something mysterious about Adam. This fresh quartet of actors joins a talented ensemble that already includes Jared Leto as Skeletor, Camila Mendes as Teela (who is the Sorceress’ daughter in certain narratives), Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson as Goat Man, and Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops.
How Will Orko Be Handled In Masters Of The Universe?
The cast for this production showcases an impressive array of talents, however, you might observe that all the characters portrayed thus far from the Masters of the Universe universe are humanoid in some way. There are exceptions like Orko, a sorcerer hailing from the realm of Trolla, whose spells often go awry or fail when he attempts to aid He-Man. Typically, Orko serves as comic relief, but it’s worth mentioning that “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” has added depth to this character, making him more complex and less one-dimensional – a trait you can appreciate if you subscribe to Netflix and stream the series.
While it’s not definitively confirmed that Orko will show up in the remake of “Masters of the Universe,” we have come a long way since the 1987 version. Back then, Orko was left out due to his design complexity being beyond the movie’s budget constraints, and Gwildor took his place instead. Today, with advanced CGI and performance capture technology at our disposal, it’s possible to bring Orko to life on screen. But, we’re still curious about what a live-action version of him might look like.
In my opinion, it’s crucial to preserve Orko’s animated look while ensuring he doesn’t seem overly cartoonish in a movie that aims for a more serious tone. On the other hand, making Orko appear too realistic might lead to a replica of Sonic the Hedgehog’s initial cinematic design, which could be unsettling for children. Specifically, his glowing yellow eyes and partially hidden face should be designed carefully to avoid giving them an eerie feel.
The film “Masters of the Universe” isn’t released until June 5, 2026, but I can’t wait to see what director Travis Knight’s team cooks up for Orko. Here’s hoping they strike a good balance, similar to the approach taken for Toothless in the live-action “How to Train Your Dragon”. In the meantime, TopMob will continue to share any casting updates and major news about the reboot as they come along.
