The Oscar-nominated actor and director James Franco is reemerging into the limelight with a few upcoming films, marking a comeback after a spell away from public scrutiny due to controversies surrounding him in recent times. Prior to any accusations against him emerging, Franco was actively involved in directing and acting in his own movies, one of which remains unreleased. In a recent interview with MovieWeb, Lio Tipton, a star in Franco’s shelved film “The Long Home”, expressed their thoughts on whether the movie should be released.
Tipton shared with us, “That’s quite a puzzler. I must admit, I haven’t had the chance to watch The Long Home, as I worked on it directly following my experience with In Dubious Battle. It was truly remarkable! James Franco gathered an exceptional cast for that project, and there’s a lot surrounding the film that I’m not equipped to discuss honestly. I just hope the filmmakers and crew receive recognition for their efforts. However, there are several administrative hurdles involved, so we’ll have to wait and see.
The Crazy, Stupid “Family”
Fans of movies will undoubtedly recognize Tipton from the classic romantic comedy, “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” It’s amazing to think that this movie, featuring an impressive cast including Steve Carell, Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, and Julianne Moore, was released nearly 15 years ago. In a recent interview, Tipton shared, “I often reflect on that movie because it had such a profound influence on my life and career. I went into that film with very little knowledge about acting or the professionalism of actors. Witnessing their kindness and dedication laid the foundation for my career as it stands today.
That film frequently crosses my mind. Each project has its own distinct moment, followed by completion. And now, whenever I encounter someone from that family, it feels like a thrilling reunion because we all seem to share the sense that — none of us expected it would resonate so deeply and meaningfully with so many others, and that shared experience creates a strong bond.
Lio Tipton, Filmmaker
In previous conversations, Tipton has shared that they had aspirations of becoming a filmmaker before venturing into acting; however, their acting prowess is evident in the latest action-romance flick, “Love Hurts,” where they share the screen with Ke Huy Quan and other notable figures. Rest assured, Tipton’s ambition to direct movies remains intact.
I’ve drafted some ideas, and in corporate terms, I guess they could be described as works-in-progress; everything is still in progress. However, I wouldn’t maintain my sanity within this industry without the personal ambition to become a filmmaker myself. It provides a sense of stability for my aspirations. And honestly, acting can seem precarious… it’s not something that comes naturally. When you step onto a set, there’s no way of knowing if you’ll secure another role for years to come. The future is uncertain.
Tipton, speaking about their directorial endeavors, added, “What truly fuels my motivation is recognizing that I’ve consistently been here for a single purpose,” he explained. “And that purpose remains unchanged, providing me the freedom to explore other realms.” From Universal Pictures, the movie Love Hurts is currently showing in cinemas.
