Despite being stuck in the ominous Dark Place, it’s clear that Alan is reaping significant rewards now. Evidence from Remedy Entertainment’s recent financial report indicates an impressive milestone for Alan Wake 2: the game has officially sold two million copies.
The game has now earned back its creation and advertising expenses, setting the stage for potential income from royalties.
Reaching this milestone further boosts the impressive track record of Alan Wake 2, which has earned several prestigious accolades such as “Best Narrative” and “Best Game Direction” at The Game Awards 2023. Moreover, it nearly unseated Larian Studios’ praised RPG, Baldur’s Gate 3, for the title of “Game of the Year”.
A significant portion of Alan Wake 2’s achievement can be attributed to Sam Lake, its creative director, who had a distinct vision that propelled the franchise towards survival horror. This game was no longer the one from 2010 where Alan merely shone his flashlight at the Taken, hoping they’d explode in slow motion. Instead, the sequel’s transition into horror signified a major shift for the series. It demonstrated that Remedy Entertainment possessed the ability to flawlessly merge various genres into a compelling metafiction narrative.
Introducing a new character, Saga Anderson, enriched the narrative and increased the game’s allure. Unlike Alan or Jesse Faden from Control, Saga isn’t familiar with supernatural matters. Instead, she finds herself unwillingly thrust into the tumult of the Dark Place and Bright Falls.

The two-character structure benefited novice players, particularly those not acquainted with the Remedy Universe. Alan Wake 2 effectively revisits significant characters and motifs, making it easy for beginners to dive in, yet satisfying for seasoned enthusiasts.
The additional downloadable content for the game, titled “Night Springs” and “The Lake House,” broadened the narrative scope to include elements outside of Alan’s personal story. These expansions served to deepen the interconnected world established by Remedy Entertainment with more intricate lore and thought-provoking supernatural science fiction concepts.
Apart from the positive financial outcomes of Alan Wake 2, there’s more good news for Remedy Entertainment. Their upcoming three-player cooperative multiplayer shooter, FBC: Firebreak, is set to be released soon. Additionally, both the much-anticipated Alan Wake 2 and the remake of Max Payne 1 & 2 are now fully in production.
