I’m thrilled to pass the baton to the remarkable Lexi Minetree, who will be stepping into my iconic role as Elle Woods in the upcoming prequel series of Legally Blonde, titled Prime Video’s Elle. This new journey for our beloved character will delve into her high school years, setting the stage for the legacy she’d later create at Harvard Law School. Amazon MGM Studios and my own Hello Sunshine production house are bringing this exciting project to life, and I couldn’t be more proud! I shared the news personally on Instagram this morning, where I expressed my excitement with the following caption:
As a passionate movie enthusiast, let me share some exciting news with you all! After countless captivating auditions for the upcoming prequel series of Elle on @PrimeVideo, we’ve finally found our new Elle! And guess who had the privilege to deliver this fantastic news? Yours truly!
In the video, Witherspoon converses with Minetree regarding the auditions prior to disclosing some news and expressing appreciation for her dedication. Overjoyed, Minetree appears to shed tears and desires to contact her mother. Additionally, Witherspoon communicates with Minetree’s mom about their resemblance in voice.
We faced a tough choice recently and felt it was important to share it with you directly, given your dedicated efforts. We’re pleased to inform you that you no longer need to audition further, as you’ve already secured the role. Effectively, you are now Elle Woods.
The television show titled “Elle ” delves into the high school years of Elle Woods, offering insights into the life events that molded her into the inspiring character we adore from the initial “Legally Blonde” movie. This journey will reveal aspects of her social circle, family relationships, personal aspirations, and factors that propelled her towards a legal career.
‘Elle’ Could Be Lexi Minetree’s Breakthrough Role
Lexi Minetree, still fairly fresh in the entertainment world, is on the brink of a significant leap with her role as young Elle Woods in the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series. So far, she has limited acting credits, such as a guest spot on Law & Order: SUV and a secondary part as Bailey Swann in The Murdaugh Murders, a Tubi original production. This new role provides Minetree with an exceptional platform to display her skills more broadly and potentially catapult herself into widespread popularity.
In essence, just as “Legally Blonde” catapulted Reese Witherspoon to stardom in Hollywood, “Elle” might offer a similar breakthrough for Minetree. The original movie was a sensation upon its release in 2001, earning $142 million globally against a production budget of $18 million. At the tender age of 23, Witherspoon had been acting since she was 14, but it was with “Legally Blonde” that she truly gained recognition as a leading lady in Tinseltown. The film garnered positive reviews from critics and its success spawned a sequel, spin-off, and even a Broadway musical. If history repeats itself, “Elle” could provide Minetree with a similar career-defining opportunity.
The show, Elle, is brimming with strong creative energies. Laura Kittrell serves as both the showrunner and executive producer, working alongside Caroline Dries. Under the banner of Hello Sunshine, Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, and Lauren Kisilevsky will also take on the role of executive producers. As for the casting details, they are still under wraps. However, with Reese Witherspoon’s involvement in the project, it is certain that the character will receive meticulous care and focus.
