In the role of Ivana Trump for “The Apprentice,” Maria Bakalova found it tough to transform herself. However, the actress who shone in “Creature Commandos” and “Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm” is now thrilled about her co-stars in that very film. Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong were both nominated for Academy Awards for their portrayals of Donald Trump and Roy Cohn in “The Apprentice,” a film generating much buzz as it follows Trump’s ascension to power. In a recent interview with MovieWeb, promoting her new movie “O Horizon“, Bakalova expressed her excitement about her co-stars.
I can hardly contain my enthusiasm since the movie is getting re-released! Originally, it had a limited run in theaters… Nevertheless, I strongly believe this film carries significant importance. It offers an intriguing perspective into the complexities of the system, which I feel we should delve deeper into. In many aspects, it serves as an educational tool.
Bakalova expressed her joy and excitement for Stan, stating that he richly deserves the recognition. She also praised Jeremy, expressing that both of them are exceptional actors. When asked about letting go of portraying Ivana Trump, she didn’t mention any struggle with it.
Bakalova clarified that she isn’t a method actor in the traditional sense. Instead, she seeks aspects within herself to develop her characters and ensure they are distinct from herself to avoid merely portraying herself repeatedly. She added that it hasn’t been challenging for her to move on from playing Ivana.
Stepping Into the “Adult Fairy Tale” of ‘O Horizon’
During the filming of the project, Madeleine Rotzler (the writer/director) and she maintained a close bond. To express her feelings, she said, “I’m thrilled to call Madeleine one of my cherished friends. I hope we can collaborate on future projects for as long as we both work in this industry. As we were wrapping up The Apprentice, I texted her, ‘We’re about to finish this movie, and I adore the entire team and my director, but oh, how much I miss you.’
Keep an eye out for potential partnerships between the actor and director in the near future. For now, immerse yourself in cinematic brilliance with “O Horizon.” Penned and helmed by Madeleine Rotzler, this indie film features Renee Elise Goldsberry as Abby, a tenacious neuroscientist investigating the impact on the brain of a monkey exposed to different stimuli. Abby is also grappling with her father’s (David Strathairn) passing and seizes an innovative chance to engage in discussions using new technology that allows her to communicate with him.
In a captivating adult-oriented fairy tale, featuring Adam Pally and Aimee Mann, the intriguing outcome offers a thought-provoking journey. Recently, it has been showcased at SBIFF, with screenings taking place nationwide. Notably, Mark Gill serves as executive producer, while Paul Nelson and Audrey Tommassini Cross handle production duties. Stay tuned for further updates on this intriguing film.
