Harvey Weinstein Sues Bob Weinstein On Fraud, Financial Conspiracy Claims

Harvey Weinstein is taking legal action against his brother, Bob Weinstein, and a fellow executive from The Weinstein Company, accusing them of deceit and plotting to force him out of the business.

A court case submitted over the weekend in the New York State Supreme Court claims that Bob Weinstein, David Glasser of the Weinstein Company, and others manipulated Harvey Weinstein into securing a $45 million loan from AI International Holdings. This loan was intended to bolster the film production and distribution sector of the company. However, according to the lawsuit, this money was not invested in the company’s growth but was misused by Bob Weinstein and Glasser for their personal expenses, unjustified bonuses, and transactions unrelated to the company.

According to Imran H. Ansari, who represents Harvey Weinstein, he was tricked by people close to him into getting a $45 million loan under false pretenses for saving The Weinstein Company. Although Harvey himself guaranteed the loan, individuals within the company amassed wealth and sabotaged him at key moments, ultimately leaving him responsible for the debt while they profited when the company faced trouble.

The lawsuit also alleges that Bob Weinstein and Glasser entered into discussions with AI International to be absolved of their obligations, thus leaving Harvey Weinstein on the hook for the remaining $30 million, along with accrued interest.

In March 2018, The Weinstein Company sought protection under Chapter 11 of U.S. bankruptcy laws, due to accusations of sexual misconduct leveled against its co-founder, Harvey Weinstein.

In his suit, Weinstein is requesting compensatory and punitive damages, along with the money he claims was improperly taken by Bob Weinstein and Glasser. He also demands full coverage for any financial responsibilities that may arise from the AI International lawsuit, additional punitive damages due to fraud and financial mismanagement, reimbursement of legal expenses, and an order to prevent further mishandling of funds.

Weinstein is currently preparing for a new trial regarding the 2020 rape conviction that was overturned in April. This upcoming trial will involve an additional charge of sexual assault in New York.

The trial is scheduled for April 15th at present, but on January 29th, Weinstein requested the court to bring forward the trial date due to his health concerns, stating “My condition doesn’t allow me to be present in April.
