The White Lotus Season 3 Breaks Records, Surpasses Season 2 by 57%

The third season of the popular series “The White Lotus” is now airing, and it’s breaking viewing records for HBO and Max. When it first aired on Sunday, it was watched by a staggering 2.4 million viewers across all platforms in the US – that’s a 57% increase from Season 2’s numbers when it premiered in October 2022, which had 1.5 million viewers, and a whopping 144% higher than Season 1’s viewership in 2021 (944,000). On Rotten Tomatoes, the premiere episode has received an impressive 96% rating from both critics and audiences. However, it’s been going back and forth with Max’s other hit show, “The Pitt” starring Noah Wyle, which premiered on Jan. 9, 2025.

According to Max’s analysis, the records set by “The White Lotus” are not only being matched but surpassed. For instance, it doubled the viewership of Season 2’s premiere and saw a 90% increase in viewership since its Sunday night debut within the first 36 hours in the U.S. This brings the total viewership to approximately 4.6 million cross-platform viewers after just a day and a half. Moreover, the show has been incredibly successful not only in the U.S but also in Europe and Latin America, with its numbers more than tripling those of Season 2’s debut. Interestingly, there was an 84% increase in the number of people catching up on previous episodes leading up to the premiere compared to the same period before Season 2. To put this into perspective, the viewership for both seasons 1 and 2 saw a growth of between 7 and 8 times from their respective premiere night volumes. Specifically, Season 1 averaged 9.3 million viewers, while Season 2 averaged 15.5 million viewers.

Currently, “The White Lotus” is leading the Max top 10 chart, not just in the U.S., but worldwide. However, “The Pitt” has been giving it a run for its money, recently taking the top spot. This indicates the strong appeal of Wyle’s medical drama, which debuted around six weeks ago. On Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts a 93% critical approval and 75% audience rating, with viewers finding themselves drawn to Wyle in a way that reminds them of his portrayal of Dr. John Carter on “ER.

The White Lotus Season 4 Location Teased

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but share my excitement that even as we’re diving into the thrilling twists and turns of Season 3, HBO has already announced the return of The White Lotus for another season! And here’s an intriguing tidbit – they’ve hinted at a potential change in scenery. From the lush landscapes of Hawaii in the first season, to the enchanting Italian countryside in Season 2, and now the exotic shores of Thailand for Season 3, I can hardly wait to see where this luxurious hotel will take us next! Francesca Orsi, HBO’s Executive Vice President, has given us a tantalizing tease about the location for Season 4. Can’t wait to find out!

“I can’t really say where we’re going to land, but chances are somewhere in Europe.”

Given that the show prefers exotic and warm destinations, and Italy having been chosen as a European location, there are alternative settings for The White Lotus. One possibility under consideration is Spain’s Balearic Island of Mallorca, or Portugal, Greece, and the Southern region of France, among other tropical locations, could make for an exciting choice.

Right now, “The White Lotus” can be watched every Sunday at 9 pm Eastern/Pacific Time on HBO, or streamed on Max. On the other hand, “The Pitt” is available for streaming every Thursday at 9 pm Pacific/Eastern Time exclusively on Max.
