Be warned! This discussion may contain spoilers for the sixth season’s twelfth episode of FBI: Most Wanted, titled “68 Seconds”. To watch it, you’ll need a subscription to Paramount+ streaming service.
In the 2025 television lineup, the Fugitive Task Force was once again active during an episode of FBI: Most Wanted. This time, they were investigating a string of rapes in Maine, as April, Remy’s ex-girlfriend, had been attacked. The program offered a somber viewing experience, especially when Hana, Barnes, and Nina shared their personal experiences of having been assaulted at some point in their lives. There was even a subplot reminiscent of Law & Order: SVU, as Hana wrapped up the cliffhanger from the previous week’s episode with a single line.
Although it’s great that the update was positive for Ray Cannon and his loved ones, I can’t help but hope that the resolution behind the scenes doesn’t mean the end of this story arc for Steven Williams, a beloved alum from The X-Files. This is particularly significant after what an FBI: Most Wanted director shared with me about collaborating with him. However, let’s tackle one issue at a time!
Steven Williams’ Season 6 Story
Since Season 5’s early episodes, Steven Williams has frequently reappeared in the role of Ray Cannon Sr. This character made a significant appearance after an incident led Ray Jr., portrayed by Edwin Hodge, to reach out to his father. When Hodge was interviewed, he spoke highly of Williams, remarking that he was “simply brilliant” and “his presence on set just radiated.
In Season 6, the series “Most Wanted” introduced a compelling narrative for the Cannon family as Ray Sr.’s life was revealed to be in imminent danger at the end of the previous episode. The only way he could survive was through immediate surgery. It wasn’t necessarily what I anticipated, but it was fascinating that the show continued from exactly where it had ended with the family, as we last saw them, racing to get Ray Sr. back to the hospital upon receiving a call from his nurse.
Your immediate attention is required at the hospital. Upon further review of your CT scan by a radiologist, they’ve identified an aortic aneurysm in your system. If this should move or rupture, it could be fatal within minutes. We urgently require your presence for surgery.
68 Seconds was when the unexpected solution arose. Upon their arrival at the location where Remy was waiting, the other agents inquired about Ray’s well-being. Hana, who wasn’t among them, provided an update on Ray’s condition.
Good. His dad’s out of surgery and expected to make a full recovery.
In summary, Edwin Hodge and Steven Williams (Ray Sr.’s father) were absent from the recent episode of FBI: Most Wanted, leading some to speculate that the storyline about Ray Sr.’s health troubles might have reached its conclusion. However, considering his previous balance issues and hospitalization, as well as a potential memory issue hinted at in a recent scene, I suspect there’s more to the story yet to be explored.
As a devoted film enthusiast, I’m eagerly anticipating more from the storyline involving Williams on the show. My excitement is heightened after hearing Director Milena Govich’s insightful comments about collaborating with him, which hints at promising developments ahead.
High Praise For Steven Williams As Ray Sr.
Being a fan of Steven Williams from his mysterious role as Mr. X in “The X-Files,” I was inclined to appreciate him in “FBI: Most Wanted.” However, Mr. X and Ray Sr. are as dissimilar as night and day. Since I’ve admired his acting since the ’90s, I couldn’t help but ask director Milena Govich during our recent conversation about her experience working with him as a recurring guest star on the show. She revealed that:
Steven is simply outstanding. He possesses an incredible charisma, endearing charm, and a wit that never fails to amuse. His insights are truly remarkable, which is why I hold him in such high esteem. Remarkably, I had the privilege of directing him for his debut episode on FBI: Most Wanted during Season 5. This was Episode 2 of Season 5, where we introduced his character. Collaborating with him to build this relationship and understand his complex bond with his son, as well as their shared history, was an exciting journey. It was a pleasure to delve deeper into the dynamics between them throughout the season.
In comparison to his role in The X-Files of yesteryears, Steven Williams has found ample room for humor and endearment in the series FBI: Most Wanted. To put it mildly, the banter between his character and Agent Mulder was minimal. Conversely, the character Ray Sr., whom he portrays, is far more likable. Moreover, as Milena Govich stated, the dynamic between him and his on-screen son in Season 5 seems particularly relatable.
Many people might find themselves in a similar situation: dealing with an elderly parent who occasionally does things that may not be appropriate. It’s a common scenario, making the story and connection quite relatable. [laughs]
Currently, we’re left in suspense as to whether FBI: Most Wanted will carry on Ray Sr.’s narrative in Season 5, following the unresolved cliffhanger that was handled off-screen. However, a glimpse into the future is provided by the upcoming episode titled “Greek Tragedy,” set to air on Tuesday, February 25 at 10 p.m. ET. Excitingly, this sneak peek confirms the return of Ray Sr.’s son, played by Edwin Hodge! Don’t miss out on his comeback performance!
As a die-hard fan of action-packed FBI series, I can’t get enough of CBS’ Tuesday night lineup! The thrill kicks off with FBI at 8 p.m. ET, followed by the international escapades in FBI: International at 9 p.m. ET, and wrapping up with the pulse-pounding adventures of Most Wanted at 10 p.m. ET. However, it’s only the original series, featuring Missy Peregrym, that’s been officially renewed for the 2025-2026 TV schedule so far. The fate of FBI: International and Most Wanted remains uncertain for now.
