2025 promises an exhilarating journey for theme park enthusiasts like myself! In a matter of months, I’ll be stepping into the magical realm of Epic Universe at Universal Orlando Resort – a breathtaking leap forward in themed entertainment. Yet, the thrill doesn’t end there; next year, Universal Studios Hollywood is set to unveil its own monumental transformation with the debut of the first ever Fast & Furious roller coaster!
Universal Studios Hollywood is set to introduce an innovative twist with Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, marking it as the first outdoor coaster in the park. This exhilarating ride will be a fitting tribute to the Fast & Furious film series, departing from previous attractions like Fast & Furious: Supercharged. Rapper and franchise member Ludacris recently unveiled a sneak peek of the under-construction coaster, sparking curiosity among fans as one video comment alluded to, receiving hundreds of likes.
Does it go to space tho?👨🏾🚀
It’s understandable that the question isn’t entirely far-fetched, given there are numerous roller coasters that mimic a “space travel” experience. For instance, Space Mountain is a globally recognized roller coaster, and it’s not the only one with an extraterrestrial theme. Moreover, considering the Fast & Furious franchise has actually ventured into space, the idea becomes rather feasible.
Of course, to properly recreate a space theme, you need to build an indoor coaster, which is exactly why Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is unique. It’s the first outdoor coaster to be built in the park. This also allows it to be built on a scale that blows away the other USH coasters. Check it out in the video shared by Ludacris on Instagram.

As a cinephile, I must say, it’s quite an exciting turn of events that Universal Studios Hollywood is soon to host an outdoor coaster. The park, with its direct connection to the Universal Pictures backlot and studio, has always posed unique challenges when it comes to constructing attractions due to the constant filming activities on the backlot. Any unexpected sounds from a roller coaster could potentially disrupt a movie or show being filmed, so this development is no small achievement.
On the other hand, it’s said that the upcoming Hollywood Drift coaster will feature innovative sound-reducing technology, making it one of the quietest roller coasters around. Moreover, the ride vehicles are designed to drift autonomously, earning the coaster its name and aligning perfectly with the franchise’s theme.
The location for the roller coaster will be distinctly different. Instead of being built on the upper lot of Universal Studios Hollywood, it’s being constructed into the slope between the upper and lower lots. This innovative design includes a loop that riders will navigate, passing around the massive stairways connecting the two levels – a clever utilization of the park’s limited space.
The action-packed ride “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift” is scheduled to debut at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2026. It’s likely that the roller coaster will make its appearance prior to the next installment of the Fast & Furious film series.
