I Was Loving Nancy Travis’ Reunion With Tim Allen On Shifting Gears, But Is There More Where That Came From? What She Says

Fans of sitcoms were thrilled when Nancy Travis, a beloved figure from “Last Man Standing,” appeared alongside Tim Allen in his latest ABC comedy series, “Shifting Gears.” In the Valentine’s Day episode, she made a guest appearance to reconnect with Allen’s character Matt, who is a widower, on a less dramatic note. While it was nice that no immediate romantic storyline unfolded, it would be delightful to see her return again. Additionally, bringing back more cast members from “Last Man Standing” would undoubtedly make the show even better.

In an upcoming season of “The Last of Us,” Kaitlin Dever, who previously acted as their on-screen daughter with Allen and Travis, is expected to bring post-apocalyptic turmoil. In a chat with US Weekly, the star of “The Kominsky Method” shared his experience working again with his co-stars from “Last Man Standing,” causing them to laugh. When questioned about the possibility of Dever and her fictional siblings appearing in Matt and Riley’s lives, Travis hinted:

Absolutely, there’s no question about it in my mind. Tim is undeniably loyal, and it was truly delightful to step onto that set, where the majority of the crew were from Last Man Standing. The director, John Pasquin, has worked on numerous episodes of Last Man Standing and is a personal acquaintance, making the experience feel like a heartwarming reunion.

While Nancy Travis may not envision herself reprising her role as Allen’s on-screen spouse, she seems open to rejoining the show as Charlotte, provided Matt’s character’s bond with hers doesn’t adhere to traditional romantic tropes. It would indeed be wonderful to see a sitcom featuring two adult friends of opposite genders, who share a strong friendship without any romantic entanglements.

It’s not necessary for Travis alone to initiate such an event, as Matt could also develop friendships with characters portrayed by other “Last Man Standing” veterans like Amanda Fuller or Molly McCook. However, it’s possible that they might prefer to socialize more with Kat Dennings’ character Riley instead.

Previously, she was the first veterinarian from LMS to team up with Allen once more on Shifting Gears. However, it’s clear that she won’t be the only one, seeing as Jay Leno, a previous co-star, will make an appearance in a forthcoming episode. Travis also suggests that these collaborations might not stop there; he even mentioned Dennings’ old sitcom in this context. In her own words:

It’s quite possible that characters from the show “Last Man Standing” will appear in some form on “Shifting Gears.” If it were up to Tim, he would invite characters from “2 Broke Girls” as well.

We’ll stay here, on standby, eagerly anticipating the arrival of all those intriguing characters. Imagine if it was a car show, but instead of ordinary people, actors from previous Tim Allen and Kat Dennings productions were in attendance! That would be quite something, including Jonathan Taylor Thomas, or anyone else who’s interested!

Although Kevin Abbott, the former showrunner of “Last Man Standing,” is now working on Reba McEntire’s “Happy Place” for NBC, the new series “Shifting Gears” is being led by Michelle Nader, a writer and producer from “2 Broke Girls.” This suggests that there are connections within the show, though not necessarily all stemming from Tim Allen’s past.

The television show titled “Shifting Gears” is broadcasted weekly on Wednesdays at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time on ABC. If you miss the live telecast, you can catch it on Hulu the following day by subscribing to their service.
