The Penguin’s Rhenzy Feliz Shared With Us The Biggest Challenge Of Shooting Victor’s Death Scene, And How Colin Farrell’s Oz Look Helped Him

At the moment, it’s been four months since “The Penguin” ended on HBO, and one aspect of the finale that continues to resonate is the heart-wrenching end suffered by Rhenzy Feliz‘s character, Victor Aguilar. Despite standing steadfast with Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb throughout their journey, this adversary of Robert Pattinson’s Batman ended up choking the young man to death solely because he viewed Oz as family. This emotionally charged scene was unsettling for viewers who watched “The Penguin” live or later with a Max subscription, and it also presented a unique challenge for Feliz. Interestingly enough, Farrell’s portrayal of Oz proved beneficial in helping Feliz deliver an exceptional performance during Victor’s tragic final moments.

During SCAD TVfest, Laura Hurley from TopMob had a conversation with the actor. One of the questions she asked was about his thoughts on acting out his death scene in “A Great or Little Thing.” Feliz mentioned that making the scene feel more genuine turned out to be a greater challenge than he initially thought.

In that particular scene, the toughest aspect turned out to be simulating the sensation of choking, it seemed. Colin was indeed being considerate, yet I desired the experience to feel authentic for me. So, I would hold my breath and strain my neck against his hand forcefully to induce panic. This triggered actual shortness of breath, which wasn’t enjoyable. We repeated this a few times, not just once, but we managed to complete it. It appears he’s going through something on screen, and that’s because I genuinely was. Since I was running low on oxygen, if it looks like I am struggling, it’s because it was real.

In a less dramatic way of saying it: Oz had the chance to shoot or stab Vic, but he chose to strangulate him instead, which made Vic’s death seem more unsettling. If Vic hadn’t told Oz how much he valued him, he might still be alive and working for The Penguin’s character. However, Oz felt that having a family made him vulnerable, so he decided to permanently remove his second-in-command by killing him because of their personal bond. Rhenzy Feliz did an exceptional job in portraying Vic’s death realistically, making it seem as if he was really being strangled.

As a movie enthusiast, I inquired from Feliz whether it wasn’t more straightforward to convince audiences of Vic’s demise when the award-winning Colin Farrell donned the elaborate Oz Cobb costume and makeup. He agreed that, indeed, it made a significant difference.

Absolutely. The initial time I encountered him during a camera test, I distinctly recall saying something along the lines of, “Wow, I find myself constantly drawn to you.” And he responded with, “Embrace it.” So, I attempted to minimize my glances at him until we actually started filming. In the first episode, you’ll notice Victor often looks towards Oz, which is merely an attempt to gauge this person and understand his character and appearance better.

If Victor Aguilar had not been tangled up with Oz Cobb, his future could have shone brightly, but that’s not how things turned out, and now his story has reached its end. On the other hand, Oz’s tale is far from over. Not only will Colin Farrell reappear as the character in The Batman: Part II, but there are rumors about a second season for The Penguin, despite it being initially planned as a limited series. So, just like any other fan, Rhenzy Feliz will now get to witness the continuation of this despicable and wicked character’s journey: on the big screen and potentially the small one too.

We’ll keep you updated if “The Penguin” Season 2 gets included in the lineup of forthcoming DC TV series. At this moment, “The Batman: Part II” is scheduled for release among upcoming DC films on October 1, 2027.
