David Leitch’s New Heist Thriller Will Redefine Action Movies in the Social Media Era!

It appears that director David Leitch could be collaborating with Amazon MGM Studios and Imagine Entertainment for an upcoming action-thriller. This unnamed project is rumored to revolve around a sequence of heists occurring in today’s social media era. The specifics surrounding the production are starting to emerge, although the title has not been revealed as of yet.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Leitch will team up with his wife Kelly McCormick for the production of this feature film under their 87North label, a banner they’ve been using following the release of the highly debated action-comedy Love Hurts, starring Ke Huy Quan. Additionally, Brian Grazer from Imagine, Jeb Brody, and Allan Mandelbaum are also involved in producing this upcoming crime thriller. Mark Bianculli will take on the role of executive producer.

The script is being written by Bianculli, who was also part of creating the NBC crime drama “Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector” in collaboration with VJ Boyd. Reports suggest that this new project from Bianculli will bring a contemporary twist to traditional heist films. The plot revolves around a band of clever bank robbers who employ social media to record their robberies, engaging in an intricate game of hide-and-seek with the law enforcement.

David Leitch Is No Stranger to the Action Genre

Prior to directing, Leitch spent numerous years working as a stuntman and coordinator. Instead of performing the action, he switched to guiding it. His past experiences proved beneficial when he teamed up with Chad Stahelski to co-direct ‘John Wick’, the initial movie in the adored Keanu Reeves action-thriller series. This franchise is famous for its unique blend of gun-fu, martial arts, and intricately planned fight sequences.

After that, Leitch has taken charge of numerous impactful films such as “Atomic Blonde” (2017), “Deadpool 2” (2018), and “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw” (2019). Recently, he directed the 2022 box office success “Bullet Train”, where Brad Pitt plays a criminal tasked with stealing a valuable briefcase amidst a train filled with assassins on a Japanese Shinkansen bullet train. There are rumors that Leitch may collaborate with Pitt again as they are in early discussions for the upcoming movie “Ocean’s 14”, which is anticipated to include the return of Rusty Ryan.

Despite receiving good reviews from both audiences and critics, Leitch’s latest film, “The Fall Guy” featuring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, didn’t do well at the box office initially. However, its popularity has grown over time as more people choose to watch it at home on streaming platforms like Prime Video, indicating a strong interest in the film while they wait for Leitch’s next major production.
