Among the many things I enjoy about Reacher is its playful humor. This entertaining series, now in its third season airing on the 2025 TV lineup, excels at poking fun at itself, which I appreciate immensely. One of the most amusing instances of this self-deprecation this season revolves around a recurring gag involving Alan Ritchson‘s character repeatedly struggling to get some rest. Interestingly enough, the actor portraying the main character also shares a personal connection to this running joke, as he explained to me during our chat.

To put it simply, Reacher’s schedule barely leaves room for rest, particularly at this moment. He’s got a task to complete and he, along with his group, are putting in long hours to locate Teresa and untangle the mystery surrounding Beck’s enterprise. However, it seems like Reacher is starting to glimpse into my lifestyle, as sleep is not something I indulge in excessively.

It’s no wonder that Alan Ritchson, who puts so much effort into shows like Reacher and other projects, likely doesn’t get a lot of sleep in reality. I really hope he manages to catch more z’s than his character does, as the first three episodes of this season suggest that achieving a good night’s rest for him might be quite challenging given what’s ahead.

In the heart of Season 3’s Episode 2, following a late-night mission, I find myself back in my room. The maid offers assistance, but all I yearn for is rest. The joke recurs on multiple occasions, which adds to its humor, and I appreciate that the show acknowledges this recurring misfortune of Reacher’s. Ritchson feels the same way, as he shared with me.

Among all the runners this season, he was particularly challenging to compete against, as you might guess.

I adore jokes similar to this one so much, and Reacher excels at them! In Episode 3, there was a subtle nod to the show’s humor with Duffy’s response to Reacher strolling down the road in just his underwear, while Ritchson himself has joked about his character’s minimal workout routine.
