Alan Ritchson Reveals Hilarious Truth About Reacher’s Sleep Struggles!

Be aware, there may be minor spoilers for the initial episodes of Reacher Season 3. Proceed with caution and consider catching up on the series by streaming it using an Amazon Prime subscription.

Among the many things I enjoy about Reacher is its playful humor. This entertaining series, now in its third season airing on the 2025 TV lineup, excels at poking fun at itself, which I appreciate immensely. One of the most amusing instances of this self-deprecation this season revolves around a recurring gag involving Alan Ritchson‘s character repeatedly struggling to get some rest. Interestingly enough, the actor portraying the main character also shares a personal connection to this running joke, as he explained to me during our chat.

To put it simply, Reacher’s schedule barely leaves room for rest, particularly at this moment. He’s got a task to complete and he, along with his group, are putting in long hours to locate Teresa and untangle the mystery surrounding Beck’s enterprise. Regrettably, sleep is a luxury he can’t indulge in, despite indicating that he could use some.

It Sounds Like Alan Ritchson And Reacher Could Use Some More Sleep

When I enquired from Alan Ritchson whether Reacher managed to have a good sleep during this season, he playfully replied:

As a devoted cinephile, I must confess that he didn’t catch too many Zs. He managed a few brief dozes here and there, but let’s face it, that’s just a drop in the bucket compared to what I usually get. However, it seems like Reacher is starting to glimpse into my lifestyle, as sleep is not something I indulge in excessively.

It’s no wonder that Alan Ritchson, who puts so much effort into shows like Reacher and other projects, likely doesn’t get a lot of sleep in reality. I really hope he manages to catch more z’s than his character does, as the first three episodes of this season suggest that achieving a good night’s rest for him might be quite challenging given what’s ahead.

This Ongoing Joke In Reacher Is One Of Alan Ritchson’s Favorites

In the heart of Season 3’s Episode 2, following a late-night mission, I find myself back in my room. The maid offers assistance, but all I yearn for is rest. Just as I succumb to sleep’s sweet embrace, there comes a knock at the door – Beck stands before me, inquiring about Ritchson’s character’s activities. “Trying to catch some z’s,” I reply, only to be met by Anthony Michael Hall’s character stating, “Duty calls.” Still with my eyes shut, I can’t help but mutter under my breath, “Oh, crap!

The joke recurs on multiple occasions, which adds to its humor, and I appreciate that the show acknowledges this recurring misfortune of Reacher’s. Ritchson feels the same way, as he shared with me.

Among all the runners this season, he was particularly challenging to compete against, as you might guess.

I adore jokes similar to this one so much, and Reacher excels at them! In Episode 3, there was a subtle nod to the show’s humor with Duffy’s response to Reacher strolling down the road in just his underwear, while Ritchson himself has joked about his character’s minimal workout routine.

The popular Prime Video series, ‘Reacher’, stands out due to its thrilling action and intense drama. Yet, it doesn’t shy away from injecting humor, particularly through recurring jokes about sleep. I eagerly anticipate more of these funny moments, as the actor Alan Ritchson hinted that they will indeed continue, with new episodes airing every Thursday.
