EXCLUSIVE: Shah Rukh Khan had THIS ‘funda’ while backing Ittefaq, reveals Renu Chopra; recalls his gesture when Ravi Chopra was sick

Shah Rukh Khan teamed up with Renu Chopra for the 2017 film “Ittefaq,” which was helmed by her son, Abhay Chopra. In an exclusive interview with TopMob, Chopra disclosed the reasoning behind Khan’s involvement in the project and shared a heartwarming story about his kindness towards her family, particularly when her husband, Ravi Chopra, was unwell.

In her latest podcast with TopMob, Renu Chopra revealed that Shah Rukh Khan joined the production team for Ittefaq. She explained, “We chose to collaborate with him.” She reminisced about asking if she could meet him, but he declined and promised to visit her instead out of respect. Chopra added, “I had said, ‘Shah Rukh, you’ve been saying for the past three weeks that you will come, now I’ll only come,’ since he’s so busy.

Renu Chopra disclosed that during their conversation, Shah Rukh inquired about her requirements. She responded, “I told him, ‘I don’t have money,’ and he promised, ‘I’ll provide the funds.’ I added that my son will create the movie with his heartfelt dedication. (My son was making his debut with this film.)” Shah Rukh might not have even read the story, but he said, “I don’t bet on the horse; I bet on the jockey.” He further commented, “If your son is on board, I’ll be too.

Chopra went on to explain that SRK did not want to receive interest on the money. She stated, “Initially, the earnings were always split 50-50. Typically, when a film ends, other finances include an interest rate. However, he said, ‘I can’t take interest. It’s forbidden.’

In the course of our chat, Renu Chopra mentioned that Shah Rukh Khan paid a heartfelt visit to her home during a time when my husband was unwell. She added, “He exhibited such kindness, he expressed, ‘I understand what it’s like to have a father battling illness.’ Indeed, Shah Rukh’s own father had been diagnosed with cancer.

Renu Chopra disclosed that SRK’s father once told him, “Do only what your heart desires, and if you don’t feel like doing something, then just don’t bother with it because those who do nothing often achieve amazing things.” This piece of advice has stayed with Renu.
