Disneyland Is Getting A ‘90s Throwback Popcorn Bucket Millennials Will Be All Over (And So Am I)

As a movie enthusiast, I’ve noticed an intriguing trend that’s sweeping across the cinematic landscape – the irresistible charm of colossal popcorn buckets! While these oversized containers have been stealing hearts at theme parks for quite some time, they’ve only recently taken the movie theater world by storm.

These popcorn vessels are so popular that they often attract lines reminiscent of major attractions. The latest addition to Disneyland Resort is bound to stir excitement among millennials, and believe it or not, even someone like me – who doesn’t fall into the target age group – might find myself drawn to give this one a try.

In March, Disneyland is running one of its After Dark events specifically dedicated to everyone’s favorite day-glo era, and ‘90s Nite will include special attractions and meet-and-greets with characters who achieved major fame in the 1990s. Many characters from the old Disney Afternoon animation block will be on hand, and that definitely includes Goof Troop and the theatrically released A Goofy Movie. And when it comes to the snack bucket, expect to see Goofy’s son Max rocking his best Powerline costume, as seen below.

Too bad if the Powerline Max popcorn bucket seems so trendy that it makes you want to join ’90s Nite, as both nights of the event are already booked up. However, the silver lining is that even though some of the ’90s Nite merchandise will only be available at the event, the popcorn bucket itself will become more accessible after ’90s Nite concludes. The souvenir will be on sale later this spring, so those who can’t attend now still have a chance to grab it later.

By offering the bucket in this manner, we can potentially reduce one of the less enjoyable aspects of purchasing Disney merchandise: the hoarding of popular items for resale at inflated prices. Typically, sought-after popcorn buckets are stockpiled by individuals who later attempt to sell them online for a significant markup. By making the bucket accessible exclusively during the After Dark Event and requiring attendees to purchase an expensive ticket, we can discourage resellers from acquiring the item. Furthermore, since it won’t be a highly limited edition item, this may also help prevent excessive resale prices in the future.

A Goofy Movie is a movie that holds a special place in the hearts of many people from a specific generation, although I wasn’t part of it when it was released since I was about to graduate high school then. However, my love for Disney has made me quite familiar with this film. Interestingly, I’m not someone who hoards popcorn buckets, but I must admit that this particular one is quite impressive. It might not be as iconic as Captain America’s Shield popcorn bucket, but it certainly stands out in a unique way, and it wouldn’t hurt to have one around.

It’s rare for Disney Parks popcorn buckets to become so sought-after that they run out completely. But when this particular design becomes more widely available in the parks, it should be easy for anyone interested in owning one to secure one. The exact release date outside of ’90s Nite hasn’t been announced yet, but considering Disneyland’s 70th anniversary kicks off in May, it’s probable that those attending the celebration will have an opportunity to purchase it.

Absolutely, aside from the ones you’re already aware of, more popcorn buckets specifically designed for our 70th anniversary are expected to be on offer as well. Collectors of theme park popcorn containers should find plenty of opportunities to expand their collection in the coming months.
