Brief:
As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share my thoughts on “Crazzy,” a groundbreaking survival thriller that boldly explores new landscapes within the realm of Bollywood cinema. Directed by the talented Girish Kohli and starring the charismatic Sohum Shah, this film masterfully combines suspense, deep emotion, and intense raw energy into a storyline that’s as gripping as it is unsettling. If you’re looking for an edge-of-your-seat cinematic experience, “Crazzy” should definitely be on your watchlist!
Plot:
As a lifestyle advisor, I’d put it this way: I, much like the character Abhimanyu portrayed by Sohum Shah, am a surgeon who finds myself entangled in a whirlwind of pride and turbulence. My personal life has seen its share of upheavals, including a divorce, complicated relationships, and an ongoing legal battle concerning drug misuse. To say I’m a saint would be far from the truth.
16 years after discovering that their child would have complications, Abhimanyu’s daughter – whom he had considered aborting at birth with his former wife – is abducted. The kidnappers demand a ransom of Rs 5 crore, an oddly precise sum hidden in the trunk of Abhimanyu’s car to settle his past drug-related issues. At first indifferent, Abhimanyu’s dormant fatherly feelings are awakened, sparking a desperate struggle against time.
Under the enigmatic instructions of an unknown voice, Abhimanyu embarks on a complex series of challenges to rescue his daughter. Will he manage to do so or will he lose her forever? The identity of the chilling caller remains a mystery. Crazzy delves into these puzzles with a thrilling tale that promises an exciting ride.
What Works for Crazxy
Crazzy excels in its determination to defy conventions. Kohli skillfully incorporates profound symbolism throughout the narrative. The breakdown of Abhimanyu’s car in the desert, symbolizing his shattered life, is one example. The red ants biting him as he searches for a bolt in their hole, signifying the pain from past decisions, is another. A particularly impressive scene is when Abhimanyu performs surgery on a patient over the phone while dealing with his car breakdown, demonstrating both tension and resourcefulness under pressure, highlighting his talent in high-stress situations.
In the heat of the battle, I found myself utterly captivated as Abhimanyu, with a shattered limb, contorted it in a way that left me breathless. The sheer intensity and raw emotion of that moment was indescribably ‘insane’, making my heart race and my eyes well up.
The music in the background pulses like a separate heartbeat, intensifying the tension. Tracks such as “Abhimanyu,” “Goli Maar Bheje Mein,” and “Oh Papa” may differ greatly, but they perfectly capture the film’s atmosphere. The cinematography is striking, filling each scene with both dread and stunning beauty. Scattered throughout the movie are moments of light-hearted comedy that provide a welcome respite from the unyielding plot. Kohli’s aim to create something original is evident, making this film a delightful innovation in the survival thriller genre.
What Doesn’t Work for Crazxy
Although Crazzy aims high, the screenplay sometimes seems a bit slow-paced. The story, interesting as it is, appears somewhat stretched and could have been more substantial to make a powerful impact. Nevertheless, these minor shortcomings don’t ruin the overall experience; they merely tone down its potential greatness.
Performances in Crazxy
Sohum Shah dominates the screen with an outstanding portrayal that is nothing less than extraordinary. As Abhimanyu, he embodies a character that’s both intricate and intimidating, yet sensitive, delicate, and endearing. Shah infuses the role with a gripping intensity that captivates viewers from start to finish.
In this film, there aren’t any main characters apart from the voices of talented artists such as Unnati Surana, Tinnu Anand, Nimisha Sajayan, Shilpa Shukla, and Piyush Mishra. They significantly enhance the story by contributing their vocal talents.
Final Verdict of Crazxy
Although experiencing minor delays in the script, Crazzy stands out as a daring, intriguing movie that isn’t afraid to be unique. While it may not be perfect, its freshness and Kohli’s vision make it an enthralling viewing experience. Enthusiasts of survival thrillers will discover much to appreciate, ranging from Sohum Shah’s commanding acting, to the haunting cinematography and pulse-pounding soundtrack.
You can watch Crazxy in theatres from 28th February, 2025.
