The connection between The Office and its follow-up series at Peacock has become more concrete.
Oscar Nuñez, who portrayed accountant Oscar Martinez across all seasons of “The Office”, will return to his role in the Peacock series. Similar to its predecessor, this show is a mockumentary format where the documentary team that filmed at Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch for years now focuses on a new project – following the publisher and employees of a struggling Midwestern newspaper with rich history.
When “The Office” concluded in 2013, Nunez’s character had embarked on a campaign for a state Senate position in Pennsylvania, all while still employed at Dunder Mifflin. At present, the specifics of how Oscar will feature in the upcoming series remain undisclosed; however, it is known that Nunez has been an integral part of the project from its inception (his casting was initially reported by “The Insider” newsletter). Previously, Greg Daniels, who co-created both shows along with Michael Koman for the Peacock series, expressed interest in delving deeper into Oscar’s character from “The Office”.
The upcoming television show, tentatively known as “The Paper,” features Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo (who also serves as a writer), Alex Edelman (also a writer), Ramona Young, and Tim Key. In addition to the main cast, Duane Shepard Sr., Allan Havey, Nate Jackson, Mo Welch (who is also a writer), Nancy Lenehan, Molly Ephraim, Tracy Letts, Ikumelo, Edelman, Rahill, and Welch will appear as guests. Moreover, Ikumelo, Edelman, Rahill, and Welch are also involved in the writing of the series.
Daniels and Koman (from the show “Nathan for You”) are co-executive producers, working alongside the creators of “The Office”, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, as well as Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas. The production studio is Universal Television.
