At the 2025 Oscars, the James Bond series received its own special tribute through a medley of popular songs, with Lisa, Doja Cat, and Raye performing the numbers, introduced by Margaret Qualley via a dance to the film’s theme. Lisa sang a portion of “Live and Let Die,” displaying her own choreographed steps, while Doja covered “Diamonds are Forever,” previously sung by Shirley Bassey. Lastly, Raye performed “Skyfall,” which Adele won an Oscar for in 2012.
Lately, James Bond has been making news quite frequently, but it’s not due to a new film release within the series.
Recently, it was announced that Michael G. Wilson, aged 83, and Barbara Broccoli, aged 64, who oversee the Bond film series, are transferring their ownership of EON Productions (the company that’s been steering the Broccoli family’s creative direction for James Bond since his debut in 1962) to Amazon.
In November, they were both celebrated with the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, which is one of several Governor’s Awards accolades. Then, during the Oscars ceremony, they were highlighted as Bond was honored with a musical tribute for its extensive collection of movie-related songs.
The music that accompanies Bond is just as legendary as the man himself, combining epic film score with a catchy pop feel. The distinctive surf-guitar tune of the “James Bond Theme” was composed by Monty Norman and reworked by John Barry. Yet, tunes created exclusively for the series have also left a lasting impression, such as Shirley Bassey’s “Goldfinger” (1964) and “Diamonds Are Forever” (1971); Paul McCartney’s “Live and Let Die” (1973), Duran Duran’s “A View to a Kill” (1985), Adele’s “Skyfall” (2012), Sam Smith’s “Writing’s on the Wall,” and Billie Eilish’s “No Time to Die” (2020) — all three songs from the 2000s won Oscars.
Inquired about her musical collaborators on the red carpet, Raye replied, “They are two genuinely talented, somewhat absurd individuals. … I adore them both immensely.
The British vocalist left a lasting impression with her rendition of “Skyfall.” For anyone considering future musical roles within the franchise, they should definitely consider her – she aced the potential audition.
