WWE 2K25 seems set to deliver another top-tier game in its series, carrying on the tradition of familiar elements that fans have come to expect from the franchise. In addition to fan favorites like intergender matches and chain wrestling, 2K is emphasizing The Island as a key mode with plenty of playtime for players. Unfortunately, The Island will only be accessible on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, potentially leaving behind gamers using PS4, Xbox One, and PC systems.
It’s disappointing that this feature isn’t available across all systems, implying this might be the swan song for older generations. However, as a player who enjoys WWE games on my Steam Deck, I’m content since it means more emphasis on wrestling moves instead of The Island.
The Island appears to offer an appealing method to acquire additional cosmetics for your custom wrestler (CAW), making it potentially attractive for some dedicated fans who often buy these games primarily for character creation. Unlocking distinctive outfits could serve as a satisfying reward, but we hope they’re not hidden behind paywalls.
Since I primarily utilize Community Creations for downloading AEW wrestlers, I’m comfortable foregoing WWE 2K25’s The Island. From what we’ve glimpsed so far, it appears that even these last-generation versions will retain features like chain wrestling, intergender matches, and the Bloodline Showcase. Given my interest in MyRise, I find it more appealing due to the numerous legends that can be unlocked by progressing through the game’s diverse storylines.
My approach in playing WWE games has consistently revolved around mastering the grappling mechanics. I’ve often been a gamer who engages in random exhibition matches for no particular purpose. Occasionally, I concoct my own storylines, and at times, I feel that Austin Theory should receive a GTS from CM Punk.
While it’s uncertain whether WWE 2K25 will perform smoothly on the Steam Deck due to 2K Games’ history of suboptimal handheld optimization, it’s important to mention that previous versions, such as 2K24, 2K23, and 2K22, ran quite well on the Steam Deck. Fingers crossed there won’t be any issues this time around. The absence of The Island in the game should ensure a smooth performance on Valve’s handheld device.
Regardless of the outcome, it seems 2K Games has once again excelled in creating a high-quality wrestling game with WWE 2K25. The DLC roster is intriguing, managing to include a TNA legend and an active semi-pro AEW wrestler, although the inclusion of celebrities remains a letdown. Everyone knows KSI will likely be one of them, which makes for a wasted opportunity in that spot.
