Excitedly, I’m sharing the news that I’ve joined forces with UTA! The visionary director behind the critically acclaimed film, The Apprentice, which delved into the early days of a young Donald Trump, has inked a deal with this esteemed agency. After parting ways with CAA last month, I’m thrilled to embark on this new creative journey. My latest project, focusing on the meteoric rise of Trump during the 1980s, garnered a best actor nomination and a Golden Globe nod for Sebastian Stan’s portrayal of young Trump, as well as Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for Jeremy Strong’s remarkable depiction of Trump’s mentor, Roy Cohn.
The movie garnered positive criticism upon its premiere at Cannes in May, and the director of Iranian descent, Abbasi, received a nomination for an Independent Spirit Award due to his contributions to the production.
Following his apology last month for an incident at CAA’s Golden Globes party, Abbasi has decided to part ways with the agency. However, he clarified that this decision was not related to the incident itself. In his explanation, he described a playful, non-sexual gesture he made towards another man at the party, which he regrettably described as a slap on the rear. Recognizing the gravity of his action, he expressed remorse and acknowledged his mistake. He has since learned a significant lesson about taking accountability for actions and the importance of respectful behavior in all situations.
The filmmaker resides in Denmark and is often seen at the Cannes Film Festival. His movie, titled “Border“, made its debut there in 2018 and received the Un Certain Regard Award. In 2022, his film “Holy Spider ” earned actress Zar Amir-Ebrahimi a best actress award at the festival.
He directed the final episodes of the first season of The Last of Us on a small screen, which is an adaption of a prestigious video game for HBO. He’s not only signed with UTA but also with LARK in the UK.)
