After a long wait, the highly anticipated action masterpiece “Havoc” is almost here. Directed by Gareth Evans, who collaborates with Oscar-nominated actor Tom Hardy, this thrilling movie promises to showcase one of Hardy’s finest performances. In fact, “Havoc” could potentially rank among the greatest action movies ever made, as Evans hints that Hardy is in top form, using a colorful term to describe his dedication and intensity.
Empire recently shared a sneak peek of the upcoming film “Havoc,” and star Tom Hardy hinted that this movie will offer a different take compared to his past action hits like “The Raid” and “The Raid 2.” Unlike those films, “Havoc” will feature more gunplay and less martial arts. In this movie, Hardy portrays an indomitable, stone-hard action hero at the heart of the story.
From the start, we weren’t planning a martial-arts movie. Instead, I wanted an intense gunfight atmosphere that resonates with me. Tom arrived in peak condition, like a stone sculpture. When I touched his shoulder, it felt as solid as rock. He was absolutely ready for the physical demands of the role.
Tom Hardy’s Bruised Detective Will Bring the Pain in ‘Havoc’
In terms of intense and gory violence, The Raid, The Raid 2, and Gareth Evans’ crime drama series Gangs of London certainly don’t hold back. However, based on hints about his character, Tom Hardy’s bruised detective, Walker, seems poised to outshine them all with a formidable action hero persona, rather than the martial arts finesse showcased by Iko Uwais in The Raid. In other words, Walker is expected to dish out some serious pain.
Walker isn’t a smooth talker; instead, he aims to create chaos and disorder. Unlike gently guiding someone into an arm lock, he forcefully seizes them by the back of the neck and makes their head collide with the closest hard object.
Accompanying its violent nature, Havoc will indeed fulfill its title, as Evans depicts a chaotic action scene that appears raw and shamelessly intense.
In a fishing shack, it feels as if an unyielding assault is taking place. At every turn, someone will appear brandishing a gun or a knife, emerging unexpectedly from beneath the floorboards, around corners, and even bursting through windows – front and back.
The action-packed series “Havoc,” helmed by Gareth Evans (known for “The Raid” and “Gangs of London”), boasts an impressive cast including Tom Hardy, Jessie Mei Li, Justin Cornwell, Quelin Sepulveda, Luis Guzmán, Michelle Waterson, Sunny Pang, Jim Caesar, Xelia Mendes-Jones with Yeo Yann Yann, Timothy Olyphant, and Forest Whitaker, will premiere on Netflix on April 25.
