The authorities in Mumbai have launched an investigation against the illegal sharing of Vicky Kaushal’s movie “Chhaava” on various digital platforms. This step was taken following a report from Rajat Rahul Haksar, CEO of August Entertainment Pvt Ltd, who serves as an anti-piracy representative for Maddock Films Pvt Ltd.
The report stated that the movie, Chhaava, was unlawfully distributed over 1,818 web connections. Released across the country on Valentine’s Day in 2025, this film experienced substantial financial setbacks at the box office as a result of rampant online piracy.
As a diligent follower, I’ve been partaking in actions that encompass several legal statutes to ensure compliance. These include provisions from the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) such as Sections 316(2) and 308(3), the Copyright Act with sections 51, 63, and 65A, the Cinematograph Act, 1952 (Amendment 2023) under Section 6AA, and the Information Technology Act with Sections 43 and 66.
After receiving a complaint, the Cyber Team has initiated an active probe into this issue. They’re keeping a close eye on multiple online sites and tracing illegal download links to find those involved. The Mumbai Crime Branch continues to be vigilant in combating digital piracy and preventing any more unauthorized dissemination of the movie.
This movie is a cinematic rendition of Shivaji Sawant’s well-known Marathi novel sharing its title, and it delves into the tale of Sambhaji Maharaj, the second emperor of the Maratha Dynasty, with Vicky Kaushal playing the central character.
Under the guidance of director Laxman Utekar and production house Maddock Films headed by Dinesh Vijan, this film features prominent performances by actors Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna.
As reported by TopMob, the movie Chhaava has been running at the Hindi box office for its sixth consecutive week and saw a rise of approximately 10% in earnings compared to the previous day. Predictions suggest that with current trends, the film starring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna could potentially earn about Rs 3 crore.
Over a span of five weeks, the movie Chhaava has accumulated approximately 528.55 billion Indian rupees at the box office in India. With this impressive earnings, it has already been categorized as a blockbuster, and now it’s gearing up to surpass the 550 crore net mark in India. On the professional side of things, actor Vicky is set to appear next in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film titled Love & War, co-starring Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor.
