As a devoted cinema enthusiast, John Boyega’s character Finn continues to captivate me in the Sequel Trilogy. I can only cross my fingers and hope that the whispers of his return in future Star Wars movies prove to be true. Regrettably, during his recent convention appearance, Boyega didn’t shed light on this topic. However, he did disclose an intriguing request he made to J.J. Abrams regarding a specific scene involving Finn falling down while filming The Rise of Skywalker.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I was fortunate enough to attend Emerald City Comic Con recently, where I had the pleasure of being on a panel discussing various subjects. Among those topics, I fondly reminisced about my time filming “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” During this conversation, as reported by Popverse, I shared an interesting request I made to director J.J. Abrams when I returned to set – I wanted to minimize the amount of standing or running scenes for my character, making it easier on me physically.
In Star Wars, I found myself constantly landing or plummeting. Truthfully, I spent most of the time in free fall. Now, don’t sugarcoat it – you know I was falling quite frequently. So, I asked J.J., “Could I stay upright for a bit longer?
As a die-hard Star Wars fan, I remember vividly what John Boyega shared with TopMob before the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. He, as the man behind Finn – our stormtrooper-turned Rebellion leader, expressed a desire to see his character grow and progress. To do this effectively, he wanted Finn to exhibit greater confidence, rather than constantly stumbling into trouble that required rescue.
It’s been some time since I last watched Episode IX on Disney+, yet I still sense that Finn’s character arc had significant developments. Although The Rise of Skywalker (which faced numerous criticisms) didn’t explicitly show these leaps, we know that Finn was confirmed to be Force-sensitive. Regrettably, the most intriguing aspect of his storyline was unveiled in the final installment of the Sequel Trilogy, and we were left wondering where his journey might lead next.

There’s a possibility that John Boyega might reprise his role, as speculations online suggest. The story goes that he will feature in a film where Daisy Ridley is expected to return as Rey Skywalker. Given their strong bond and Finn’s potential Force sensitivity, it wouldn’t be surprising if he assisted her in restoring the Jedi Order.
In essence, it’s wonderful news for me if John Boyega reappears in the Star Wars series, given his past comment about working on the franchise being like a “luxury jail.” Granted, I can empathize with the pressures and fatigue he might have experienced dealing with fans during his initial tenure as Finn. However, I’d be thrilled to see him return for another round, hopefully enjoying himself more this time around while filming additional scenes as Finn.
As a dedicated cinema enthusiast, I’m currently enjoying John Boyega’s portrayal of Finn in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. If you haven’t seen it yet, stream it now on Disney+. Keep checking TopMob for updates about what’s unfolding in the distant galaxy.
