Salman Khan calls his own films ‘bad’ as he reacts to Bollywood’s dull phase: ‘Jab itni gandi pictures banengi to flop…’

On March 26th, the actor held a meeting with the press to publicize his upcoming movie titled Sikandar. In keeping with his characteristic honesty, he expressed some candid opinions about Bollywood films failing. He stated, “When such poor quality films are produced, they will inevitably fail. The current crop of films being produced are all subpar, even those I am involved in.” Moreover, he acknowledged that it is the actor’s role to attract the public to cinemas.

When questioned about Bollywood’s current struggles at the box office, Salman Khan stated that poor-quality films are destined to fail. He admitted that many of the movies being produced, including his own, lacked quality, explaining that if a movie doesn’t do well, it’s a sign that it’s not good, and if it succeeds, it’s seen as being good.

2023 saw Salman’s first significant box-office disappointment with Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, a film that couldn’t recoup its production costs. Acknowledging the film’s shortcomings, Salman stated that it’s the actor’s job to entice viewers to cinemas. He highlighted that as the movie’s lead, any underperformance places the blame squarely on the star’s shoulders.

Actor from the movie Kick also voiced his opinions about the problems in today’s scriptwriting scene and why there seems to be a shortage of high-quality content in Bollywood. He noticed that writers tend to create material to please themselves, while directors and producers are often trying to outdo one another by displaying their filmmaking abilities.

Salman underscored the importance of creating movies tailored for viewers, crafting narratives that would captivate those seated right up front. He voiced his disapproval towards the practice of assuming less of the audience’s cognitive abilities, emphasizing that overtly simplifying content is unwarranted.

Additionally, he emphasized that due to the emergence of Over-The-Top (OTT) services, viewers can now enjoy an extensive selection of movies and global content, thus becoming increasingly discriminating in their choices.

The 59-year-old actor advocated for filmmakers to make films with genuine intentions, suggesting that currently, this isn’t often the case within the film industry.

Khan mentioned that his father recently emphasized the issue of films being produced for the wrong motivations, such as when an actor’s schedule permits, a heroine is preparing for marriage, or funding has been obtained. He underlined the importance of having an exceptional screenplay before starting production, and nothing else should come before it.
