Vogue World: Hollywood Unveils Star-Studded Event for Fashion and Philanthropy!

Whenever Anna Wintour visits Los Angeles, it’s typically because significant fashion-related matters are imminent.

On Wednesday, the global editorial director of Vogue and the chief content officer at Condé Nast took to a podium on the Chateau Marmont terrace at around 11 am, surrounded by the city’s fashion elite. However, the presence of notable figures like Governor Gavin Newsom, Casey Wasserman, Arianne Phillips, Colleen Atwood, and Ruth E. Carter hinted that the discussion would go beyond just fashion matters.

We’re overjoyed to be in Los Angeles, a city we hold dear and have always looked up to. It’s been on our minds since winter, and now being here, contributing to its recovery and renewal, seems like a natural step. This city’s resurgence mirrors America’s own rebuilding efforts, and that’s why Vogue wants to be part of this journey, which is what we’re here today to discuss – the upcoming Vogue World: Hollywood event.”

This version maintains the original message but uses simpler and more conversational language.

The fourth edition of the glamorous event at Paramount Pictures, scheduled for October 26th, is set to offer more than just an entertaining display. As Wintour explained, it’s not just a one-night-only show featuring models, actors, dancers, musicians, and surprises; it’s a celebration of the romantic relationship between fashion and cinema, with a particular emphasis on philanthropy. This event aims to honor this bond, focusing on raising funds for those affected by the devastating Los Angeles wildfires, especially costume designers. In line with this purpose, all ticket sales will be donated to the Entertainment Community Fund in full.

Fashion enthusiasts adore parties, and Vogue World is a blend of a party, a runway exhibition, and a cultural phenomenon,” she went on. “If you ask someone who attended Vogue World in New York, London, or Paris, they’d agree. Moreover, we understand the influence an event like this has in bringing people together during difficult times.

The reason for its initiation was clear: Vogue World first emerged in New York as a tribute to a city regaining strength following the pandemic. In 2023, it transitioned to London, aiming to bolster the beleaguered theater scene. Subsequently, it journeyed to Paris before the Olympics, transforming Place Vendôme, known as the most stunning building in Paris according to Wintour, into a venue for a unique blend of sports and fashion. “Doubters were proven wrong with regards to the city’s Olympic strategy,” said Wintour, explaining their focus on France.

As a devoted admirer, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the upcoming event on the West Coast, which was planned last fall as a means to rejuvenate the entertainment sector post labor strikes. However, unexpectedly, wildfires occurred. Anna Wintour aptly remarked, “Crises often strike when we least suspect them.” Vogue World, by merging fashion, arts, and culture in a city’s heart, has transformed into a runway spectacle serving as a rallying cry. It’s an opportunity to captivate a massive global audience, raise awareness, and spread optimism, creativity, and hope. Notably, it’s also proven to be financially beneficial: since its inception, the event has donated over $3 million to numerous charitable organizations.

As a devoted admirer, I enthusiastically introduced my cherished friend, collaborator, and perpetual inspiration, Nicolas Ghesquiére, to the stage. This esteemed French fashion designer, who serves as the artistic director of women’s collections at Louis Vuitton, regards Los Angeles as his adopted home – a vibrant cultural melting pot that continuously enriches him with each passing day.

Indeed, the dazzling film industry of Hollywood plays a significant role for me. Movies have served as an influential creative outlet and platform for exchange throughout my life. Just like many others, I spent countless hours watching films during my childhood, which undeniably reflects in my current work. I’ve had the pleasure to work with some esteemed collaborators from Tinseltown, such as Emma Stone, who won an Oscar, Jennifer Connelly, and Alicia Vikander,” said the designer.

Suitably, another actress stepped up to the microphone to honor and introduce the three costume designers who are integral to Vogue World: Hollywood. Taylor Russell had the privilege of presenting Phillips, Atwood, and Carter, and she gave a shout-out to Carter as her recent collaborator on the upcoming reboot of The Thomas Crown Affair.

Prominent costume designers will showcase their creations alongside esteemed colleagues such as Milena Canonero, Catherine Martin, Sandy Powell, Jacqueline West, and Shirley Kurata at the event. Additionally, character costuming will be provided by Shirley Kurata. The Vogue World creative team consists of figures like Anna Wintour, Mark Guiducci – creative editorial director at Vogue, and Lisa Love – Los Angeles creative director of Vogue World: Hollywood. Juan Costa Paz, from the Paris-based creative studio Convoy, has been appointed as the creative director. Fashion will be led by Alex Harrington, while makeup will be overseen by Pat McGrath and Pat McGrath Labs.

Phillips, Atwood, and Carter also exchanged words, voicing their enthusiasm for the event during a pivotal moment in the Los Angeles film industry’s history. Among them, Atwood’s comments stood out as particularly moving when she disclosed that her home was destroyed by the Palisades Fire. As a four-time Oscar winner, she additionally presented one of her awards that had been salvaged from the debris.

In my role as a costume designer, who also suffered from the Palisades Fire, Atwood expressed gratitude towards Vogue for their incredible support. Recovering from such a disaster involves a series of requirements that are both immediate and long-term. Initially, it’s about having shelter, essentials like food and clothing, and addressing unique personal needs. Following this, there are the lingering uncertainties that we must continue to navigate. Friends have been invaluable during this time, I can’t imagine how I would’ve coped without them. The ongoing support from our artistic community and this organization is vital for us all, as we move forward.

Casey Wasserman, an influential figure in both entertainment and business, is well-known for his deep contemplation regarding Los Angeles’ needs. As the head of LA28 Olympics, he has consistently advocated for significant events like Vogue World: Hollywood, reinforcing their importance.

Wasserman stated that it’s not just about staging performances; it’s about economic growth, showcasing creativity, and demonstrating Los Angeles’ resilience. Every concert, sporting event, movie premiere, and awards show provides employment opportunities. These events spark immediate jobs, cause a ripple effect in the economy as visitors boost local businesses like restaurants and hotels, and directly offer people chances to earn a living and support their families. Lastly, hosting in Hollywood symbolizes our determination. It signifies that we won’t back down or cower in fear or doubt.
