GameCube Games Are Coming To Switch 2, Including Beloved Fighting Game Featuring Link

With the arrival of the Switch 2, the Nintendo Switch Online experience is set to be enhanced. In the latest Switch 2 Direct presentation, it was announced that classic GameCube games will be incorporated into the service.

Among the initial releases are classics like The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, F-Zero GX, and Soulcalibur II – the renowned 3D fighter from Bandai Namco where Link is also a selectable character.

Since fighter games are currently popularizing the inclusion of guest characters, it’s worth noting that Soulcalibur was one of the pioneers in this trend. When Soul Calibur II debuted way back in 2002, each platform – Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo GameCube – featured unique guest characters. Among them were Spawn, Heihachi from Tekken, and the renowned Link.

Although Soulcalibur II has been adapted for various gaming platforms, it wasn’t fully complete. Characters like Spawn were playable on PlayStation, and Heihachi Mishima could shock Xbox players, but the character Link was conspicuously missing.

The resurgence of SoulCalibur II and Link’s reintroduction as a playable character marks a significant triumph for game conservation. Finding a version of Soulcalibur II that includes the hero of Hyrule isn’t common, but making it widely accessible through the NSO service is an ideal method to reignite enthusiasm for the series.

Maybe Bandai Namco is cooking something else in the near future? Only time will tell.
