The Duskbloods: Is FromSoftware Going to Focus on Multiplayer Games from Now On?

Among the most striking unveilings during the latest Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, a noteworthy highlight was the announcement of The Duskbloods, a unique title developed by FromSoftware, specifically designed as an exclusive for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

FromSoftware’s latest release, Duskbloods, offers a multiplayer gaming experience – something new for them in this genre. Despite this, and with Elden Ring Nightreign still on the horizon, Hidetaka Miyazaki reassured fans that this isn’t setting the standard for the studio’s future projects.

“I’ve Always Found the PvPvE Structure Very Interesting”

In an interview as part of Nintendo’s Creator’s Voice series (through VGC), Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki discusses The Duskbloods and the gameplay style they aimed to achieve while designing the game for potential Switch 2 release. He explains:

*Hidetaka Miyazaki talks about The Duskbloods and the focus on their format during development for possible future Switch 2.*

The mixed PvPvE format has always caught my attention. It provides ample room for creative game design and at the same time, enables us to apply our expertise in creating tough opponent interactions.

Despite deviating from the traditional single-player structure of FromSoftware games, Miyazaki reassures fans that the studio will primarily stick to their established gameplay format. He clarifies, “It’s worth noting that this online multiplayer game doesn’t signal a change in our focus towards more multiplayer games in the future.

“The Moontears will Flow for One, and One Alone”

The narrative of The Duskbloods hasn’t been revealed fully as of now, but judging from its title and the trailer, it seems that the game will primarily revolve around a multitude of dark, vampire-like characters.

Despite FromSoftware’s narrative often taking a backseat to its characters and gameplay, The Duskbloods seems to prioritize the elements that fans have come to expect: eerie Edritchian horrors and darkly stylish, BDSM-inspired aesthetics.

As a gamer, I’ve got some exciting news: It’s official! We’ll be getting our hands on multiple characters, each with their unique abilities. Some can absorb enemies, while others exhibit telekinetic powers. There’s even this one fellow in a steampunk mech suit that seems to have stepped straight out of a BioShock game. Can’t wait to dive in!

While the Nintendo Switch 2 is slated to debut on June 5, it’s regrettable that the anticipated game, The Duskbloods, remains targeting its launch for the year 2026 instead.
