Glen Powell Learns Tom Cruise’s Ultimate ‘Running Man’ Tip

In the world of Hollywood, the well-known actor Glen Powell is slated to appear in Edgar Wright’s upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, “The Running Man.” Given that this film demands an unusual level of physical exertion, it appears that Powell is well-equipped for the part due to his physical prowess. However, it seems that one of his mentors, Tom Cruise, who starred alongside him in “Top Gun: Maverick,” offered some unconventional guidance. Rather than suggesting fitness routines, Cruise offered advice about how cool Powell could make running look on screen.

At CinemaCon, Powell, along with Wright and the rest of the cast, made an appearance to unveil the movie’s initial glimpse and trailer. According to Variety’s report, Powell took the microphone and shared a story about reaching out to his Top Gun co-star for advice. He mentioned that Cruise is someone who doesn’t conceal his enthusiasm for the cinematic experience, hard work, and risking one’s body to entertain audiences. Additionally, he said that Cruise advised him to get a camera and film himself running sprints.

Film yourself running as soon as possible. You don’t look as cool as you think you do.

Tom Cruise, who is famously known for his role in Mission: Impossible, has undeniably grasped the necessity of swift movement when portraying Ethan Hunt. While he doesn’t constantly run in all of his films, as Ethan Hunt, he’s almost always being chased. It stands to reason that Hunt would occasionally sprint, making it necessary for Cruise to strive for superhuman speed during these scenes. During the filming of Mission: Impossible – Fallout, while executing one such high-speed chase involving a leap from one building to another, Cruise unfortunately broke his ankle. Despite not reaching top speed, he managed to maintain a cool demeanor throughout the stunt, didn’t he?

In the novel “The Running Man,” written by Stephen King under the pen name Richard Bachman and published in 1982, we find ourselves in the year 2025. Here, we meet Ben Richards, a contestant on a futuristic television game show known for its popularity. The story unfolds as Richards is chosen to participate in this high-stakes game. In “The Running Man,” the contestants must evade a horde of deadly adversaries to secure their survival and earn some money. If they’re caught, it means their public execution on live television. Ben Richards navigates this dangerous game while trying to stay alive and uncover the truth behind the game show.

The movie, penned by Wright and Michael Bacall, will be helmed by Wright himself. It features Powell joined by stars like Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, William H. Macy, Katy O’Brian, Daniel Ezra, and Karl Glusman, among others. The release date is scheduled for November 7, 2025, under the banner of Paramount Pictures.

Glen Powell Went Through Serious Preparation for His Role in Stephen King’s ‘The Running Man’

Back in 1987, a movie titled The Running Man was already made. This film drew inspiration from Stephen King’s novel but took creative liberties, toning down some of its darker aspects. Instead, it became an exhilarating action-thriller, with Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was a major star at the time, leading the cast.

Powell doesn’t necessarily have to emulate Schwarzenegger’s performance as the two adaptations have significantly different tones. Nevertheless, the actor of Twisters and Hit Man took his role preparation seriously. He claimed he wasn’t fully prepared despite getting into top physical condition, aware that he would need to withstand blows. However, he admitted that he hadn’t completely prepared for what was in store during this production… When you actually fall and hit the ground, as we did, the audience experiences it too.
