In one of the most spine-tingling modern cinematic antagonists, Esther, was initially presented to us in the movie Orphan, a film accessible via your Hulu subscription. Her icy demeanor and manipulative tactics send shivers down our spines, not to mention her extreme propensity for violence. With whispers of another sequel in production, I’m left guessing how Esther might reappear. However, actress Isabelle Fuhrman has hinted at her return using a unique, made-up phrase.
The original “Orphan” movie (from 2009) left such a strong impression on viewers that more than a decade later, a prequel titled “Orphan: First Kill” was produced, currently available for streaming through your Paramount+ subscription. Unlike the first film where we met a child-like murderer, this prequel delves into the backstory of the initial family she targeted with her deceitful actions.
It seems as though we might have thought Esther’s film career had reached its end, but it looks like she’ll make a surprise return in a third Orphan film! During an interview at Tampa’s Spookala (as reported by Bloody Disgusting), actress Isabelle Fuhrman used a unique term to hint about the timeline for Orphan 3: will it follow the original story or serve as a prequel?
Both. [It‘s an] inbetween-quel.
The ending of the movie Orphan leaves me thoroughly baffled. In it, Esther meets a tragic end after being violently kicked into a frozen lake and suffering a broken neck. It’s hard to believe anyone could survive such a catastrophic incident… isn’t it? The film Orphan: First Kill serves as a prequel, shedding light on how her first adoptive family met their grisly end, ultimately leading to her placement in an orphanage.
If I had to make an educated guess, I would assume that the third movie will revolve around a new family adopting Esther, following the Colemans in the original storyline. However, if the upcoming horror film is set after both the original and “First Kill,” it could mean that there might be a chance for Esther’s survival. It could also involve flashbacks or flashforwards to keep the suspense going. Regardless of how her story unfolds, Esther will likely continue her killing spree, leaving me both excited and terrified to learn more about her future exploits.
Isabelle Fuhrman recently hinted at something exciting by mentioning a new script with twists even more wild and unpredictable than before. The past films have already left us stunned with unexpected plot twists, such as revealing that “Esther” is actually a 33-year-old serial killer suffering from Hypopituitarism, which makes her appear childlike. In the first movie, we discovered her evil scheme: she posed as an orphan to manipulate and control her adoptive family. However, things took a violent turn when the truth was exposed.
In the sequel titled “Orphan 2“, it was revealed that the woman who took Esther in knew all along that she wasn’t the lost daughter she claimed to be. This revelation has left me questioning what further surprises may lie ahead. If Esther managed to survive from the first film, that could easily be a twist of epic proportions.
It seems that one of the most formidable female antagonists from the horror movie genre is set to return in the upcoming film titled “Orphan 3,“. This movie, referred to as an “in-between sequel”, might be a bit confusing right now, but we’ll have to wait and see exactly what this term implies.
