‘Happy Death Day 3’: Director Drops New Clues!

In a delightful twist of words, some truly chilling comedy horror films have made a lasting impact, thanks in part to their grandiose names such as “Bodies Bodies Bodies” and “Happy Death Day”. Now, let’s delve into “Happy Death Day 2U”, released back in 2019. Ever since then, fans of this series have been eagerly awaiting a third installment. The director behind the first two films, Christopher Landon, has given us tantalizing hints about “Happy Death Day 3” following his recent announcement that it’s in production. We managed to grab a chat with Landon in Los Angeles, where he was busy promoting his latest Blumhouse thriller, “Drop”, currently showing in theaters.

According to Landon, we’re definitely discussing “Happy Death Day 3”. He’s had this idea for a while now, and he’s talked it over with Jessica Rothe extensively. Currently, they’re rekindling those discussions. So, fingers crossed, we’re optimistic about it happening. Rothe has also expressed her enthusiasm for the third installment and is fond of Landon’s proposed storyline, as she shared in 2024.

Chris Landon seems to have everything planned out for the next installment of Tree’s story. All we can do is wait for Blumhouse and Universal to organize their details. I’m really hoping for the best, as I believe that this third chapter could either conclude or re-start this fantastic character and series in an exciting way.

For those who have enjoyed Landon’s previous works like “Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, Freaky“, and “Happy Death Day“, be prepared for a visually appealing conclusion in “Drop“. Similar to these films, this Hitchcockian thriller incorporates contemporary elements into its storyline, such as messages resembling AirDrop notifications, to advance the plot. These messages that Violet (Meghann Fahy) receives on her phone are displayed in large graphics on screen, helping viewers follow along with Violet’s harrowing first date experience.

Landon expressed that he aimed for the discussions to feel like genuine dialogues rather than impersonal phone calls. He emphasized this by considering the empty spaces and placement of elements carefully throughout the process, ensuring everything was well-designed.

During our preparations, we found that the creative camera angles and lighting techniques we employed, particularly those related to lighting, played a significant role. Initially, I had some thoughts about these aspects, but as I delved deeper, I became more determined to continue exploring them extensively. This approach aided me in understanding Violet’s emotional state and her inner world through visual means. Additionally, it offered a way to avoid the visual repetition that comes with a film set in a single location.

The “Magic” of ‘Drop’

In “Drop”, the captivating actress Fahy (recognizable from Season 2 of “The White Lotus“) delivers another award-worthy performance. Her co-star, Brandon Sklenar (“It Ends With Us”, “1923”), offers a solid portrayal as her bewildered first date, struggling to grasp the life-threatening predicament that Violet finds herself in. This forms the central conflict of the film. Landon shared with us how these two talented actors made the movie even more exceptional by their involvement.

[Fahy] truly simplified my role. To put it straight, she’s exceptionally gifted. My part mainly involves offering a bit of direction and emotional support throughout the film, while she handles the heavy lifting… And Brandon Sklenar is equally impressive. He’s an immensely talented actor with a strong on-screen presence, yet still managing to feel authentic and relatable… The movie’s enchantment lies in their chemistry and our shared desire for these characters to endure.
