Every Major TV Show Canceled in 2025 (So Far)

In 2025, it’s safe to anticipate that the rivalry among streaming services will persist unabated. The sheer volume of content available is staggering, making it difficult to stay current with everything. Fresh platforms are popping up regularly, and each one boasts a plethora of original TV series designed to outshine the competition. Just when you believe you’ve kept pace with the popular shows, a new batch surfaces, vying for your viewership.

2025 has seen a surprising number of television shows getting canceled just three months into the year. Some were unlikely to succeed due to their specialized themes or weak execution, while others, which seemed promising, simply struggled to stand out and gain sufficient visibility. Regardless of the cause, it’s never easy to bid farewell to these fascinating, groundbreaking, and star-studded productions.

‘Hysteria!’ (2024)

Stream on Peacock

The movie “Hysteria!” takes place during the late 1980s’ “Satanic Panic,” focusing on an underdog high school heavy metal band trying to capitalize on their town’s fascination with the occult. However, when the star varsity quarterback inexplicably vanishes, the band gains a sinister reputation, which leads to turmoil and ultimately a chain of murders and abductions.

Guided by Julie Bowen, Anna Camp, Chiara Aurelia, and Emjay Anthony, I found myself immersed in a show that blended the trials of growing up, dark humor, and a touch of terror. Sadly, before it even hit our screens, delays due to the writers’ strike disrupted the filming schedule. This setback seemed to diminish the show’s momentum and appeal among viewers. Regrettably, viewership figures for Hysteria! remained undisclosed by Peacock, but it appears that the series failed to capture the interest of many viewers like myself.

‘Frasier’ (2023 – 2024)

Stream on Paramount+

Initially, Kelsey Grammer portrayed Frasier Crane on the show “Cheers” at the age of 32. Fast forward to today, and the actor is now 70. It seems that enthusiasm for his famous psychiatrist character has dwindled among viewers. By reviving the cherished sitcom for a new era, Frasier brings fans back together with their beloved character. In this latest rendition, Frasier is navigating life in Boston alongside his son Freddy.

As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that in the third season of this captivating series, we welcome new faces Toks Olagundoye and Anders Keith. Notably, we also get to see familiar favorites Peri Gilpin and Bebe Neuwirth grace our screens with cameos. Unfortunately, after two seasons, the streaming service Paramount+ made the tough decision to end Frasier, due to escalating production costs, a lukewarm response, and a noticeable dip in viewership on their platform compared to traditional network television.

‘Teacup’ (2024)

Stream on Peacock

As a movie reviewer, I’d say: “Diving headfirst into the chilling world of Robert McCammon’s ‘Stinger’, I found myself immersed in ‘Teacup’, a nerve-wracking horror series set against the backdrop of rural Georgia. This gripping tale follows an unlikely band of characters, each facing unseen perils and threats that keep you on the edge of your seat. Suspense is weaved masterfully with character development, creating a captivating narrative that spans over eight heart-stopping episodes. The series delves into themes of survival, offering profound insights into humanity itself.

This show titled “Produced by James Wan” and featuring Yvonne Strahovski, Scott Speedman, and Chaske Spencer in the main roles, garnered high expectations as critics dubbed it “stylishly scary” and appreciated its ability to create a chilling atmosphere that lingered. Viewers enjoyed both the acting and storyline, but unfortunately, the series was canceled in January 2025 due to insufficient audience engagement.

‘The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin’ (2024)

Stream on Apple TV+

In the year 18th century England, comedian Noel Fielding portrays Dick Turpin, a character reluctant to lead a band of outlaws. His aim is to overcome the corrupt lawman Jonathan Wilde and an enigmatic criminal group known as The Syndicate, aspiring to be recognized as England’s most legendary highwayman. The initial season, consisting of six episodes, debuted in March 2024, garnering acclaim for its offbeat atmosphere and clever dialogue.

The second installment of “The Entirely Imagined Exploits of Dick Turpin” came to an unexpected halt during production as Fielding, the main character, failed to return due to ill health. Already filmed episodes were left unused when Apple TV+ and Big Talk Studios concluded they couldn’t salvage the series and ultimately chose to discontinue it.

11
‘The Franchise’ (2024)

Stream on HBO

Have you ever pondered about the behind-the-scenes action in those popular superhero films and their interconnected universes? “The Franchise” is a comical satire offering a peek into the tumultuous filmmaking process of a struggling superhero movie, seen through the weary eyes of Dan, a first assistant director.

The TV show titled “Tecto: Eye of the Storm” is plagued by an ineffective team, both creative and compromising decisions, and extraordinary concessions. Essentially, it delivers a sharp critique of the cutthroat blockbuster film industry in Hollywood. However, given its storyline, there are limitations to what can be done, and unfortunately, “The Franchise” was canceled after one season because of excessive production expenses.

10
‘In the Know’ (2024)

Stream on Peacock

Peacock’s First Venture into Adult Animation: In the Know marked a significant milestone for the streaming platform, blending stop-motion puppetry with live-action interviews. The show centered around Lauren Caspian, NPR’s third most popular host, who conducted real-life interviews and gained authentic insights from his guests. The humor was often derived from Lauren’s good-natured but somewhat edgy demeanor.

As a movie reviewer, I found “In the Know,” created by Mike Judge, Zach Woods, and Brandon Gardner, to be a fresh and intriguing take on public radio and modern culture. The show offered a unique, meta perspective that was both entertaining and thought-provoking. Unfortunately, despite its innovative concept, the series was abruptly ended after its first season due to insufficient viewership, making it a fascinating experiment that didn’t quite capture the attention it needed.

9
‘Territory’ (2024)

Stream on Netflix

Westerns are experiencing a comeback, with Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe playing a significant role. Netflix is also joining the trend in this genre, and one of its contributions is Territory, an ambitious modern take on the Western, set in the harsh Australian outback. The series starts with the Lawson cattle station facing a succession crisis, and Emily Lawson struggling to manage the power vacuum amidst local thugs and competing ranchers.

This Western-style series excels across multiple aspects, boasting stunning visuals alongside gripping family dramas. Initially, it received high praise, with an impressive 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, its global viewership only reached 87.1 million hours, and it didn’t sustain its initial success in Netflix’s Top 10 rankings. Additionally, scheduling problems may have played a role in its cancellation, leaving fans frustrated as Season 1 concluded with an unresolved cliffhanger.

‘Wayne Brady: The Family Remix’ (2024)

Stream on Hulu

As a devoted movie enthusiast, I was absolutely thrilled to witness the comeback of the charismatic Wayne Brady with his new reality series, “Wayne Brady: The Family Remix“. This heartfelt production offers a rare glimpse into Brady’s unique family setup. We get to know his ex-wife, Mandie Taketa, their daughter Maile Masako Brady, and Mandie’s partner, Jason Fordham. Contrary to what social media might suggest, this show delves deep into the complexities of co-parenting and alternative family structures in a raw, unfiltered manner.

In February 2025, Wayne Brady officially announced that “Wayne Brady: The Family Remix” would not be coming back for a second season. Though the show was praised for its emotional impact on reality TV, it ultimately failed to secure another round. Additionally, the shift from Hulu to Freeform under Disney’s umbrella may have affected its viewership and contributed to its brief run.

7
‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ (2021 – 2025)

Stream on Max

As a fellow film enthusiast, allow me to share my excitement about “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” a series I’m eagerly watching on HBO Max. Created jointly by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble, this captivating show delves into the lives of four freshman roommates at Essex College in Vermont. Each of these 18-year-olds – Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet), Bela (Amrit Kaur), Leighton (Reneé Rapp), and Whitney (Alyah Chanelle Scott) – possesses unique characteristics and dreams. One grapples with financial difficulties, while another navigates the complexities of young love. It’s a fascinating exploration of the highs and lows of early adulthood.

As a devoted cinephile, I must confess my disappointment with a TV series that initially promised so much. Boasting an intriguing concept and a stellar cast, it seemed destined for greatness. However, it fell short in keeping up with the relentless pace of today’s streaming world. Sadly, by March 2025, we learned that the show would not continue beyond its third season, having been canceled. The departure of Reneé Rapp midway through Season 3 further hampered the series’ momentum and left me yearning for more of the initial spark it once possessed.

6
‘Cruel Intentions’ (2024)

Steam on Prime Video

A contemporary reimagining of the 1999 cult favorite “Cruel Intentions” was prepared to offer a steamy, captivating drama series, transporting us back to the cherished era. This time, the story unfolds at Manchester College in Washington D.C., focusing on step-siblings Caroline Merteuil and Lucien Belmont who employ cunning and trickery to ascend the social ladder within Greek life on campus. However, things take a turn when Vice President’s daughter, Annie Grover, joins the scene, leading their deceitful tactics astray.

The reboot of Prime Video attempted to breathe new life into the classic story but fell short of leaving a lasting impact. Premiering in 2024, it received negative reviews and scored a dismal 24% on Rotten Tomatoes, being criticized as neither as enjoyable or groundbreaking as the original. In March 2025, Prime Video concluded that the series had reached its end after only one season.

5
‘The Recruit’ (2022 – 2025)

Stream on Netflix

With so many spy thrillers currently streaming, what makes The Recruit stand out is its unique blend of comedy within the espionage genre. The series follows Noah Centineo as Owen Hendricks, a novice CIA lawyer who finds himself in a perilous maze of global conflicts and undercover missions. While Season 1 serves as an introduction, Season 2 sees Owen embroiled in a deadly game alongside Nichka, the daughter of a former asset.

As a movie enthusiast, I must say that “The Recruit” delivered an outstanding blend of action, laughter, and tension, making it a standout gem amidst Netflix’s diverse offerings. However, its second season saw a noticeable dip in viewership. This downturn was primarily due to fans growing weary of the series during the two-year hiatus, a consequence of the writers’ strike. Ultimately, it found itself among Netflix’s high-risk productions and was unfortunately axed in 2025.

4
‘The Sticky’ (2024)

Stream on Prime Video

Drawing inspiration from the notorious 2012 Maple Syrup Heist of Canada, this Prime Video series offered six tantalizingly twisted episodes in its inaugural season. It revolved around Ruth Landry, a dedicated maple syrup farmer who resorts to criminal activities when the rigid bureaucratic institutions jeopardize her very livelihood. She forms an unlikely alliance with a Boston mobster and a security guard, hatching a plan to rob Quebec’s vast reserves of maple syrup.

In the spotlight are Margo Martindale, Chris Diamantopoulos, and Guillaume Cyr, with Jamie Lee Curtis making a special appearance to boost the star power. The Sticky, which boasted an intriguing concept and garnered positive reviews (80% on Rotten Tomatoes), unfortunately failed to capture a broad audience. With Prime Video’s extensive library of shows, it seemed this one catered to a specific niche. Sadly, it was canceled in February 2025.

3
‘Bookie’ (2023 – 2025)

Stream on Max

In the realm of sports betting, the TV series called “Bookie” was born by the minds of Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay. The show revolves around Sebastian Maniscalco’s character, Danny Colavito, an experienced bookie navigating obstacles that surface when gambling is legalized in Los Angeles. Alongside his partner Ray Ballard, he grapples with unpredictable clients, personal quandaries, and the turbulent evolution of his line of work.

The series, titled “Bookie,” provided a humorous perspective on the gambling realm; however, following two seasons, it was discontinued due to decreasing viewership and Max deciding to shift focus from specialized comedies. While Bookie’s second season, launched in 2024, garnered a fair response, critics commented that it didn’t seem to be attracting a broader audience.

2
‘The Pradeeps Of Pittsburgh’ (2024)

Stream on Prime Video/FreeVee

Showrunner Vijay Patel derives inspiration from his own life events to produce “The Pradeeps Of Pittsburgh,” a touching and comical drama that chronicles an Indian immigrant family’s struggles to adapt to American life. The series, consisting of eight episodes, is narrated in a flashback format from an interrogation room, as the Pradeep family finds themselves under suspicion for setting fire to the Mills’ residence due to long-standing grudges.

In a natural and easy-to-understand way:

The show titled “The Pradeeps Of Pittsburgh” initially debuted on FreeVee, later moving to Prime Video. It received positive appraisal from critics. However, its transition to a platform predominantly focused on dramas made it challenging for the humorous series to garner attention. Marketing efforts were minimal and viewership was scant, with some viewers even drawing parallels to ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat, which also didn’t see much success.

1
‘How to Die Alone’ (2024)

Stream on Hulu

The show titled “How to Die Alone” is written by and features Natasha Rothwell, who gained recognition for her portrayal of Belinda in The White Lotus. In this production, she takes on the character of Melissa – a financially struggling Black woman working at JFK airport, who has never experienced love and seems to have lost sight of aspiring for a brighter future. Following a close brush with death, Melissa embarks on a journey to rediscover her identity.

This show focuses on improving personal self-esteem and seeking contentment, regardless of the stage in life. In fact, it’s always possible. Amidst the abundance of saccharine romantic comedies and grandiose fantasy series on television, this Hulu production stood out and received a nomination for NAACP Image Awards. However, due to lower-than-anticipated viewership and lackluster commercial performance, How to Die Alone was unfortunately discontinued after just one season.
