In the past, director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra thought about casting Randeep Hooda for a key part in his critically acclaimed 2006 film Rang De Basanti. However, Hooda opted to leave the project and work on a movie by Ram Gopal Varma instead. Recently, Hooda, known for Murder 2, admitted that he declined the role due to not wanting to be positioned behind Aamir Khan in the poster, expressing his thoughts as “My caste has risen.
In a recent chat with Shubhankar Mishra, Randeep Hooda disclosed that he was initially thought of for the Bhagat Singh role in Rang De Basanti, a part eventually given to actor Siddharth. Hooda mused about how being cast in the film might have propelled his career to new heights.
Actor Irrfan Khan mentioned that he remembered trying out for the part and receiving constant motivation from filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, who, as shared by Hooda, occasionally appeared in a state of intoxication and encouraged him to take on the project.
Instead, Hooda decided not to take part in the movie when director Ram Gopal Varma informed him he might play the main character in D, but if not, he’d appear in a secondary role beneath Aamir Khan on the Rang De Basanti promotional materials.
In his own words, the actor from the Highway confessed that his self-importance influenced his choice, stating that his vanity hindered him from accepting a lesser part. Additionally, he revealed that he declined the offer for Rock On!! due to much the same issue.
As a devoted follower, I’ve found myself reflecting on the reasons behind my decision to decline high-profile roles in favor of less mainstream projects. I’ve often opted to collaborate with unique filmmakers and producers, rather than those deeply entrenched within the industry, which I firmly believe has played a significant role in shaping the pace of my career advancement.
Initially, Hooda believed that his skills were sufficient to launch his career, but he’s come to realize that there’s more to it than just raw talent in this field. Currently, Hooda is enjoying the limelight following the success of “Jaat,” a film where he shared screen time with Sunny Deol.
Would Randeep Hooda have been a better choice for Bhagat Singh’s role in Rang De Basanti?
