Furthermore, Max will soon be welcoming three fresh Turkish productions that were revealed at a Tuesday launch event. We’re combining the popular local content from BluTV with worldwide [WBD] content for a more extensive selection. This move is aimed at fostering subscriber growth and enhancing viewer interaction, as mentioned by Jamie Cooke, the general manager of WBD in Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Turkey to THR. Additionally, we are dedicated to investing significantly in Turkish original productions over the long term.

There aren’t any specific budget limitations set, but instead, we are concentrating on producing the ideal quantity and combination of original content for our Turkish platforms. This allows us to also license these creations for use on our own or other platforms globally. It turns out that Turkish content has a strong appeal not just in the Middle East, Latin America, but also in Central and Eastern Europe, and its popularity is expanding even further.

Deniz Sasmaz Oflaz, Vice President of Local Original Productions, Local Channels, and Streaming Operations at WBD for Turkey, emphasized this point. “Turkey has a rich narrative heritage and a bustling entertainment sector,” she explained. “By launching Max, we’re not just delivering top-quality content to Turkish viewers; we’re also boosting our commitment to nurturing local talent and producing shows that highlight the distinctive culture and tales of Türkiye.

She shared with THR that the fundamental appeal of BluTV will be emphasized even more during the Max launch. “It’s crucial to reassure our devoted fans and subscribers that our content won’t undergo significant changes,” she clarified.

Şaşmaz Oflaz noted that familiar U.S. series like “The Last of Us” and “Game of Thrones” have thrived on WBD’s Turkish streaming service, along with classic shows such as “The Sopranos,” “Sex and the City,” and more. Interestingly, he added, even older titles continue to attract a substantial number of subscribers. Furthermore, “The White Lotus” has also gained immense popularity. To cap it off, popular movie franchises like “Harry Potter” are also heavily viewed on their platform.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m excited to share some amazing news! Turkey, my current virtual travel destination, is brimming with captivating stories waiting to be discovered. With our new platform, Max, we’re bringing you an exceptional streaming experience that merges the finest of worldwide content with local Turkish tales. It’s going to be a journey like no other!

The groundbreaking series, First Göktürk, promises an innovative perspective on the streaming platform. As Şaşmaz Oflaz shared with THR, this period drama is not only a significant piece of Turkish history but also one of the first to focus on the Turks. However, the narrative will not be didactic but rather emulate Western storytelling techniques, similar to that seen in films like Kingdom of Heaven and The Lord of the Rings. This series will chronicle the adventures of authentic historical characters, and we eagerly anticipate its success. We hope it will attract numerous subscribers to Max and extend over multiple seasons.

Şaşmaz Oflaz summarized: “It’s somewhat reminiscent of ‘Game of Thrones’, where success allows for branching off new projects. I believe it’s crucial and meaningful for Max Turkey to narrate the story of Turkish people, as such representation is not common on screen. It feels very local yet universally appealing.

Here is a closer look at some of the originals coming to Max Turkey.
