In full flow is Season 2 of Marvel Rivals, and while Emma Frost has certainly left an impression on the game’s meta, she’s not the only dominant figure commanding attention in competitive arenas. Characters like Spider-Man and Venom are gradually asserting their dominance, steadily ascending the ranks with unstoppable determination.
With the release of Season 2, players found their ranks lowered by nine divisions. This means that those who were previously in Celestial I-III (one step below One Above All and Eternity) now find themselves in Platinum I-III. It turns out that newcomers climbing out of Gold are joining this group, unaware of the challenge posed by characters like Spider-Man.
In Marvel Rivals, it’s long been understood that Spider-Man is every Healer’s worst nightmare. However, with Season 2, he has become even more challenging to face off against due to recent balance adjustments, making him quite frustrating to encounter. Additionally, Vanguard Heroes such as Captain America, Thor, and Hulk have been strengthened in terms of mobility and survivability, making them an increased danger to the supporting characters.
Additionally complicating the situation, Duelists now possess enhanced dive capabilities, making it a more challenging landscape not only for everyday heroes like Spider-Man and Venom, but also for characters such as Scarlet Witch and Star-Lord who have taken on more of their semi-Dive roles. This shift has proven troublesome for less durable heroes like Cloak & Dagger and Invisible Woman.

The positive aspect? Dive compositions can definitely be dealt with – provided your team members aren’t novices who just started playing recently. Characters like Emma Frost can halt diving heroes such as Spider-Man even during their ultimate abilities, and she isn’t unique in this. Psylocke and Black Panther can also be contained, with some assistance from Bucky or Scarlet Witch. Namor is another viable option – though he may not always be available in Platinum and above matches, which are similar to those featuring Hulk.
The change in the Dive Meta has sparked complaints among players, with many expressing their frustrations on Reddit and various social media platforms. While some spectators empathize with these sentiments, others propose potential solutions to what they perceive as a short-term problem. For longtime Overwatch enthusiasts, however, it’s simply another ordinary day.
It seems undeniably like the beginning of a fresh meta for Marvel Rivals, and even though players are currently exploring various team compositions during the early stages of the season, it won’t be long before a strategy similar to GOATS (Garden of Angels, Tank, Off-Tank, Support, and Damage) appears in the Marvel hero-shooter community.
