Severance star Jen Tullock is bringing a solo show to New York this fall.
Actor Tullock, known for his role as Devon in Apple TV+’s series, will make his appearance in the Off-Broadway production of “Nothing Can Take You from the Hand of God” at Playwrights Horizons. Interestingly, Tullock shares co-writing credits on this play with Frank Winters.
In this play, Tullock assumes multiple roles, each character being from a memoir about a queer individual returning to their deeply religious hometown. The performance incorporates live and pre-recorded video, as well as live action. Tullock’s character journey is portrayed as “flickering” between various personas, such as a 10-year-old Polish boy in a cape, an aggressive literary agent, a young religious leader, a mother reminiscent of ‘Mary Kay Place wearing heavy drugstore makeup’, and many more.
The play, orchestrated by Jared Mezzocchi, is scheduled to be staged at Playwrights Horizons in October 2025; the specific dates are yet to be announced. Notably, Tullock, who plays a role in Severance, has previously starred as Anita in season two of HBO’s Perry Mason. Moreover, she has contributed to the scriptwriting of movies like Before You Know It, which made its debut at Sundance in 2019. Tullock has also graced the stage in Chicago and New York, including a previous solo performance.
Over the past few years, I’ve incorporated different stories of spiritual mistreatment into my creative endeavors. However, what I’m presenting now is the rawest and most challenging interpretation, as it doesn’t offer any exemptions, not even for me. I’ve been thrilled to observe the evolution of language in media recently, but what we aim to do here is delve into the concept of media as a character; to narrate a tale about an individual struggling with their own storyline in a literal sense that I hope will inspire healing in those who have been advised to conceal their true selves, yet yearn for the fellowship they were forced to abandon. This was Tullock’s statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
The play, titled “Practice,” by Nazareth Hassan, will make its appearance at Playwrights Horizons as part of their fall 2025 programming. This season’s focus is on exploring the deterioration of truth during a period of mass brainwashing. This dark psycho-comedy revolves around a circle of free thinkers who gradually succumb to the influence of a captivating leader. The play will be staged at the midtown theater from October to December. Further details about four more productions scheduled for Winter/Spring 2026 will be revealed at a later time.
