It was confirmed by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department through a press statement on Thursday that Joe Seiders, who plays the drums for indie rock group the New Pornographers, has been taken into custody due to allegations of possessing child pornography.
Following the recent arrest, I must sadly confirm that Joe Seiders, aged 44, is no longer part of our beloved group. In a heartfelt statement we shared on social media, we expressed our profound shock and sadness over the allegations against him. Immediately, we cut all ties with Joe. Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by his actions.

The New Pornographers were established in the ’90s, and Seiders joined the group in 2014. Since then, he has been playing drums and providing backup vocals on their last three albums, namely “Whiteout Conditions”, “In the Morse Code of Brake Lights”, and “Continue as a Ghost”.
On April 7th late in the afternoon, authorities were called to a Palm Desert business due to a report from an 11-year-old boy who claimed that an unknown male had secretly filmed him while he was in the restroom using his cell phone. Two days later, at around 5 p.m., another call came in from the same location, this time from an employee stating that a man was observed entering and exiting the restroom with young boys from the business. The man, identified as Seiders, was subsequently apprehended by authorities.
Law enforcement secured search warrants for Seiders’ home, phone, and vehicle, discovering evidence linking him to the reported incidents as well as other criminal activities, according to the statement. The statement further revealed that Seiders was arrested and taken to Indio’s John Benoit Detention Center on charges of child pornography possession, harassment/molestation of a minor, violation of privacy, and an attempt at such violation.
