Approaching two years since Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon hit the shelves, it left us all in awe, truly a masterpiece. However, there was an intangible element that made me feel it could have earned a perfect 10/10 score, similar to Elden Ring’s achievement. What I yearned for was additional content – a DLC or expansion pack. This extra material would not only enrich the captivating narrative of the game but also unravel the intriguing secrets hidden within the planet Rubicon.
Regrettably, it’s been almost two years now, and FromSoftware doesn’t appear to be planning on expanding the content of their highly anticipated mecha RPG focused on vehicular combat, Armored Core VI. However, I can only plead: FromSoftware, could you reconsider and deliver a comprehensive story expansion for Armored Core VI?
Or maybe…they’re already working on it in secret?
Rather than questioning if FromSoftware will release a new DLC, let’s engage in an exciting exercise of imagination by discussing potential directions for the future narrative of the Armored Core series instead.
The Coral Continues
In Armored Core VI, the primary enigma surrounds a peculiar, intelligent alien energy source known as Coral. This resource serves dual purposes: it fuels machines to their maximum potential and exhibits a force not unlike electricity. Following classic themes in post-apocalyptic sci-fi stories, excessive use of Coral brought about the collapse of Rubicon, significantly altering the planet’s ecosystem.
From a personal perspective, I’m eager to delve deeper into this storyline if it becomes available as DLC. There’s a character, Ayre, who resembles a companion in our minds, and we’ve only scratched the surface of understanding her origins within the Coral hivemind.
The Institute Storyline

Another major mystery that arises during gameplay is the collapse of the Institute – a community of researchers who specialized in studying Coral, ultimately leading to their demise due to this research. If FromSoftware desires an influx of revenue, delving into the fate of the Institute’s surviving members or even taking players back in time akin to Bloodborne: The Old Hunters or Dark Souls would be extremely profitable.
There’s such a wealth of unexplored possibilities in delving into that bygone period preceding the Great Ibis Fires, which left everything barren.
A Better PvP Mode
As a dedicated fan, let me tell you honestly, Armored Core VI truly shines with its Player vs Player (PvP) mode. Following countless hours immersed in the campaign and striving for S-Ranks across missions, diving into the Arena feels like the ideal vent for any built-up tension. Typically, my experiences fall into two categories: either I suffer a crushing defeat or leave my opponent’s Armored Core resembling scrap metal!

As an ardent fan, I can’t help but express my hope for stronger online elements in future Armored Core installments. With FromSoftware venturing into multiplayer-focused games like The Duskbloods and Nightreign, perhaps we’ll witness a more robust online infrastructure, leading to smoother gameplay experiences with fewer technical hiccups.
Was the Secret Level Story Enough?
The Amazon’s Secret Level TV show offered a unique viewpoint on the Armored Core universe, shifting the focus from giant mechanical entities to the individuals operating them. Notably, Keanu Reeves portrays an expendable mercenary pilot exceptionally well.
Regrettably, this aspect doesn’t significantly advance the game’s narrative. However, it offered an intriguing peek at what ordinary living could be like beyond those steel battle vehicles.

Too bad it might be the only extended Armored Core content we get.
As a recent enthusiast of Armored Core, it’s really disappointing not to see FromSoftware utilizing the potential for additional content like DLC or an expansive update similar to Shadow of the Erdtree. However, it could be that such expectations might be more hopeful than realistic at this stage.
