Babil Khan has countered allegations suggesting he exploited his late father, actor Irrfan Khan’s demise, to kickstart his Bollywood career. At present, he is busy promoting his new movie, Logout. During the promotion, he discussed the hurdles he encountered following his father’s passing, such as unwanted public scrutiny and private sorrow.
In a recent chat with The Lallantop, Babil stated, “Some have suggested that I’ve used my father’s passing as a stepping stone for my acting career. But if that were the case, I wouldn’t be auditioning now. Instead, I was expressing love because we were all overwhelmed by it during those times. It was essential to honor that sentiment.
After his father’s death, the attention turned towards him unexpectedly, as he had not been ready for such a spotlight. Babil remembered that during Irrfan’s hospital departure en route to the funeral, the streets were crowded with fans even amidst the COVID-19 outbreak. People were weeping and standing in quiet tribute, merely wanting to bid their farewells. He expressed that it was a genuine, emotional experience for him.
At that instant, Babil expressed that he recognized his own grief wasn’t only personal; it was a collective sorrow felt by millions who cherished and respected his father. He started sharing memories and anecdotes about Irrfan, not for the spotlight, but as a means to preserve his father’s legacy for those who held him dear.
In 2022, Babil marked his first acting appearance in the Netflix movie Qala. This was followed by Friday Night Plan, another Netflix release. His next project, Logout, a gripping cybercrime thriller set in the realm of social media influencers and excessive smartphone use, made its debut on ZEE5 on April 18. Amit Golani helms this production, with Rasika Dugal, Nimisha Nair, and Gandharv Dewan joining Babil in the cast.
