For those eagerly anticipating The Elder Scrolls VI more than a remastered version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, take comfort – Bethesda is indeed developing it.

During the broadcast for Oblivion Remastered, Todd Howard, who is both the chief and the creative director at Bethesda Game Studios, didn’t reveal much about the upcoming game in the RPG series. However, he reassured fans that the project is indeed ongoing.

Howard mentioned that we’re focusing on the sixth chapter now, but what makes The Elder Scrolls series stand out is having the ability to reflect upon all the previous installments – Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind, Daggerfall, and Arena. Each game has played a significant role in shaping the concept of role-playing games and open-world gaming for their respective eras.

It seems like we’re in for a prolonged wait for The Elder Scrolls VI, as one Reddit user pointed out earlier this year. Interestingly, the time that has passed since The Elder Scrolls VI was first announced exceeds the gap between when The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim hit the shelves and the announcement of The Elder Scrolls VI.

Howard himself has pondered over whether Bethesda unveiled The Elder Scrolls VI prematurely, indicating that he might have chosen a more casual way to make the announcement.

In 2023, a Microsoft document in its court case with the FTC regarding the acquisition of Activision Blizzard indicated that The Elder Scrolls VI wouldn’t be available on PlayStation 5 and its release was not expected before at least 2026. Pete Hines, then head of publishing at Bethesda, also stated around the same time that fans shouldn’t anticipate updates about The Elder Scrolls VI for a while yet, as further details were still years away.
