A new HBO film could have been co-produced by Sen. Bernie Sanders.
An elderly socialist, roughly in his eighties, is traveling across the nation with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, advocating against economic systems dominated by a few powerful figures (i.e., oligarchs).
First class, of course.
In my own words, “Mountainhead” – a series penned by Jesse Armstrong of “Succession,” takes me on a journey following four tech magnates as they unwind at a luxurious ski retreat. However, their tranquil getaway is disrupted by unsettling news headlines hinting at an unfolding global predicament.
What happened? The trailer suggests they’re partially to blame.
Among the billionaires, one playfully criticizes another, “Your system appears to be biased and discriminatory,” which is often levied at Elon Musk. After acquiring Twitter, the Tesla tycoon has taken control of its moderation tools.
Critics on the progressive side, who are increasingly cautious about free speech, voiced their disapproval, yet failed to acknowledge comparable hatred that persists on other technological platforms as well.
In an alternate phrasing: The promo clip additionally reveals the billionaires receiving a call from the American President. After making some adjustments, it’s disclosed that the Leader of the Free World cautioned the group about their platforms, as they “fueled a tense situation, disseminating unverifiable deep fakes, widespread deception, market turbulence.
In the satirical piece, Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman, Cory Michael Smith, and Ramy Youssef portray the ultra-wealthy characters.
The project appears to be a snug fit for “The Office” alum.
Previously, Carell satirized President Trump’s space ambitions through the Netflix series “Space Force”, which didn’t fare well. Additionally, he made a substantial donation to aid those involved in the early stages of the Black Lives Matter protests that turned violent.
MAX is set to premiere the movie on May 31st. Interestingly, World of Reel mentions that the film’s production was completed just recently, which is unusual for most movies and TV series as they usually take longer. This might indicate that Warner Bros. Discovery, or the renowned Emmy winner Armstrong, felt a sense of urgency to get this story released promptly.
Why?
It’s possible that the quick release date for the report is not just for Emmy-voting purposes, but could also be due to Armstrong wanting to criticize billionaires immediately, considering the intense media and left-wing outrage against Musk at present.
As a passionate cinephile, I’ve seen creators exert their influence in the release of their projects on several occasions. In 2020, Billy Ray made it clear that he wanted his melodrama “The Comey Rule” to be released before the presidential campaign, and thankfully, Showtime listened to his persuasive arguments. Initially, the pay channel wasn’t keen, but once Ray firmly stood his ground, he successfully swayed their decision-making process.
The movie portrayed a storyline where the Russia collaboration allegation was factual. What stories can we expect to unfold in “Mountainhead”?
