Penn Badgley, who stars in the Netflix series, has shared that fans can expect the fifth and concluding season of the show to be incredibly fulfilling. This final installment is significant as it marks the beginning of his character’s journey with Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail) and serves as a fitting end to his storyline.
Despite some unfavorable reviews, Dan Humphrey (from Gossip Girl) actor, Penn Badgley, appears pleased with the finished movie. He openly expressed his contentment, saying, “I believe we’ve achieved it; it’s a genuine deconstruction of Joe.” This news is brought to you from…
In the final chapter, Joe Goldberg experiences several dramatic events: the dissolution of his marriage with Kate Lockwood, developing feelings for Bronte (Madeline Brewer), being revealed to the public as a murderer, facing confrontations from some of his former victims, and ultimately getting shot in the groin by Bronte. It’s clear that Joe has committed numerous horrific deeds. Brendan Badgley was fully supportive of subjecting his character to as much hardship as possible at the end.
Joe’s Story Is Over
Badgley explained that Bronte served as an effective representation of the audience. He understands that many people have feelings for Joe similar to those of Bronte, despite their being misguided. He pointed out, “She’s like me,” acknowledging that she knows who he is, his identity, his actions, and even witnessed him performing them directly in front of her.
Discussing the climactic final episode, the actor expressed his thoughts on moving the moment of revelation from Joe’s box to the bedroom: “The box is quite predictable; it’s where he usually confines people, but he only keeps women in the bedroom.” Badgley further emphasized that for a true portrayal of Joe’s abusive and manipulative nature, he should be as nearly nude as possible.
In the climactic scene of the series, a violent gunfight ensues between the main characters, resulting in Joe losing his manhood. Badgley believed that this was an effective way to handle Joe’s character without placing the burden of killing him on those who take him down, as they would have to grapple with the act of murder. “If someone were to kill him – and it would be a woman, right? – well then you’ve actually burdened her with having committed murder, which I don’t think is fair. Torture? Perhaps, but that seems excessive. Prison? I feel that wouldn’t be sufficient. So what do you do? You take… his… testicles.
