Bad Company, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, The White Stripes Lead Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2025

This year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees have been officially revealed, with Bad Company, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Cyndi Lauper, Outkast, Soundgarden, and The White Stripes being the selected honorees for 2025.

Last night on ABC’s American Idol, Ryan Seacrest unveiled the new Rock Hall inductees for the second consecutive year. This is significant because Disney, ABC’s parent company, holds the television rights to the event. In addition to the Performer category, Salt-N-Pepa and Warren Zevon will receive the Musical Influence award. Thom Bell, Nicky Hopkins, and Carol Kaye are being recognized with the Musical Excellence Award, while Lenny Waronker, a renowned producer and former president of Warner Records, is this year’s recipient of the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

The induction ceremony is scheduled for November 8th at the Peacock Theater, with a live stream on Disney+ that same evening. A special show will air on ABC at a future date. Further details regarding ticket sales for this event will be announced later. This marks the fourth time the ceremony has been held in Los Angeles, the first time since 2022.

John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, stated that each inductee uniquely crafted their own musical style and persona which significantly shaped culture and altered the trajectory of Rock & Roll forever. Their music served as an expression for various generations and left a lasting impression on countless artists who came after them.

This year, The Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, Billy Idol, Joy Division/New Order, Maná, Oasis, and Phish didn’t make it onto the list of winners for the Rock Hall induction. Among them, The Crowes, Idol, Maná, and Phish were first-time nominees. Interestingly, Phish won this year’s Rock Hall fan vote (which contributes to one ballot in the overall voting process), with Bad Company coming in second place and Billy Idol finishing third. Joy Division/New Order had been previously nominated in 2023, while Oasis and Carey were both first-time nominees in 2024.

Last year’s Rock Hall class included Cher, Mary J. Blige, Ozzy Osbourne and A Tribe Called Quest.

25 years following their initial commercial release, artists become eligible for the Rock Hall. This year, Checker, Cocker, Bad Company, and Outkast are all receiving their first nominations. Notably, the induction of Joe Cocker occurs 11 years after his passing in 2014, while the induction of Soundgarden happens eight years following the unfortunate death of Chris Cornell in 2017. Lauper and The White Stripes were previously nominated in 2023, whereas this marks Soundgarden’s third time on the ballot, having also been nominated in 2020 and 2023. Among this year’s class, Checker has waited the longest for an induction since he released his first album back in 1960.
