Greetings and welcome to Ahead of the Play, our series where we introduce you to an upcoming game that can be played even before its official launch. In this series, you’ll have an opportunity to experience games ahead of their release date, whether through Soft Launch, Open Beta, Demos, or other means. Enjoy the exclusive sneak peek!

Happy appears to have mastered creating an ideal blend of relaxed amusement and fulfilling difficulty, as they’ve just softly introduced Wittle Defender into the market. Consequently, my life has significantly improved.

As a gamer, I find myself in a position where there’s not much for me to do except assemble my squad of heroes. The real action lies in choosing the right skills that are procedurally generated, and then sitting back to watch the chaos unfold as my team goes on a skill-driven rampage. It’s like being the conductor of an epic battle symphony!

As a passionate player, I must admit that this game might seem leisurely at first glance, but its simplicity doesn’t diminish its thrill one bit. Every strike echoes, every loss stings, and every conquest feels more gratifying than the last. The ecstasy I feel when the final boss crumbles in slow-motion is indescribable – it leaves me yearning for more, compelled to replay each level because the gameplay loop is that captivating.

I find it hard to comprehend how something seemingly straightforward could bring so much pleasure. Perhaps it’s because I’m growing more relaxed as an adult and less interested in daily struggles, or maybe it’s just the irresistible charm of these characters, similar to those found in Capybara Go.

Regardless if you’re using a ranged priest with orbs of lightning that hop between opponents or an ice witch (named Anna, by the way) with icicles encircling your group to push away enemies who come too near, it’s always exhilarating to choose the optimal skill combinations and team harmonies for maximum damage output.

Just as anticipated, you can enhance them using spare resources, bring in new heroes with varying rarities from the lottery system, dispatch your squad on patrol for additional loot, and open up card-based abilities to amplify your team’s stats. In essence, it essentially boils down to repeatedly embarking on a dungeon expedition, selecting skills, defeating adversaries, and eventually succumbing – a cycle that I find myself eagerly repeating time and again.

So, how do you play Wittle Defender?

It’s currently on soft-launch in select regions on Android at the moment, but if it’s not available in your app store just yet,
you can pre-register
to get first dibs as soon as it’s officially launched. The App Store does say it’s set for release on June 12th, although that might still change without further notice.
