2020 saw Netflix entering the reality dating show genre with “Love is Blind,” a program that explores an age-old query: how significant is physical attraction when it comes to two individuals falling in love? The contestants on this show are required to propose before they can lay eyes on each other. Afterwards, they’re permitted to spend some time together physically, but their commitment to marriage isn’t final until the wedding ceremony – though they aren’t obligated to follow through with the marriage if they change their minds.
It’s clear that the series has ignited an extraordinarily intense fan reaction, and it could be argued that this enthusiasm occasionally veers into excessive territory. For instance, Chelsea Blackwell from Season 6 of “Love is Blind” received death threats following episode 10, all because viewers disliked her actions or the way she treated Jimmy Presnell. Unquestionably, there’s a great deal of curiosity about the show’s couples and how their relationships unfold over time. Given this background, let’s examine the number of “Love is Blind” pairs that have sustained their relationship, as well as the show’s effectiveness in pairing people together.
There have been 26 weddings, but only 14 couples said I do
Among the top reality dating shows ever produced, “Love is Blind” stands out, but is its success in fostering lasting relationships comparable to others? So far, across eight seasons of “Love is Blind,” the first season had a promising start with six engagement proposals accepted. However, only four of these couples made it to their wedding ceremony, and ultimately, just two exchanged vows, saying “I do.” Similarly, in Season 2, six engagements took place, four weddings were held, but again, only two unions resulted in marriages.
In Seasons 3 and 6, the number of engagements increased slightly compared to previous seasons, but fewer engagements resulted in completed marriages. Specifically, Season 3 had five engagements, all with ceremonies, but only two weddings were completed. In contrast, Season 4 saw an increase to six engagements, but only four led to marriages; notably, this was the first season where three couples ended up getting married instead of the usual two. The number of engagements in Season 5 dropped significantly to just three, with only one wedding taking place, although it was consummated. Season 6 saw a rebound with five engagements, but again, only two resulted in weddings; unfortunately, only one of those marriages ended happily. In summary, while the number of engagements fluctuated throughout the seasons, the number of completed weddings remained relatively low.
The escalating engagement rate persisted, reaching a new peak of seven engagements in Season 7. However, it was even more disappointing as just two pairs managed to get married. They exchanged their vows, at least. On the other hand, Season 8, the most recent season so far, had five engagements and four weddings, with only one not resulting in a rejection during the ceremony.
11 couples have stayed married, while three have divorced
Getting engaged on a reality TV show, with cameras rolling, might seem romantic, but maintaining that marriage can be an entirely different story. Marriage is tough enough for couples who meet in regular circumstances and have time to develop feelings for each other, so it’s hard to imagine how much harder it is for those who tied the knot as part of a reality show experiment like “Love is Blind.
By Season 8, a total of 14 couples had walked down the aisle and decided to get married. Considering that the initial divorce rate for first marriages in the U.S. stands at 41%, it’s reasonable to infer that around seven out of those 14 pairs have parted ways already. Despite the varying lengths of their marriages due to their different wedding dates, the divorce rate among “Love is Blind” participants has been surprisingly low. So far, only three couples from the show have chosen to end their marriage.
The impact of the reality show “Love is Blind” on Nick Thompson and Danielle Ruhl’s mental health was significant, leading to their divorce, which marked the first among the show’s former participants in August 2022. This was followed closely by Season 2 couple Jarrette Jones and Iyanna McNeely, who announced their separation before reaching their second wedding anniversary. The marriages from “Love is Blind” seemed to be going well for several years, but the trend was disrupted in January 2025 when Tyler Francis and Ashley Adionser, a couple from Season 7, became the third divorced pair from the show.
